"It was, thankfully, a boring night at the hospital. Mizuka was sitting at the triage station, reading a romance novel and daydreaming when two figures walked in, one dragging the other. She put her book down; that was the end of her quiet night. She made her way around the desk and met the men in the lobby area. One man had deep lacerations in his chest, ones that had ripped open his flak jacket. The other one, she recognized.

"Iruka."

He looked up at her and his face lit up with recognition.

"Mizuka. My teammate was hurt just outside of town. He's lost a lot of blood."

"Gurney!"

She called over her shoulder as she examined the hurt young man. His face was pale and his pulse was a little weak. He would've died if they had tried to make it back to Konoha.

"You made the right call by bringing him here."

The orderlies helped the man onto the gurney.

"113 please."

They nodded and took the wounded man down the hallway. She tried to use the intercom to call one of the other healers, but no one was responding. She rolled her eyes.  Cho and Mikaru were the other two on, and the couple was probably enjoying their quiet night as well... in one of the empty rooms upstairs.

"I'll just take care of him. Why don't you come back with me? It would be good for him to see a familiar face once he comes to."

Iruka nodded and they made their way down the corridor to room 113. She opened the door as the men were transferring the wounded man to the bed.

"Thanks, guys. Do me another favor, if anyone comes by triage, call for me?"

"Sure thing, Z."

They left, shutting the door, leaving just them and the unconscious man. Mizuka began to cut his clothes off of him, assessing the full extent of the damage.

"So, what happened?"

"We ran into rogue shinobi outside of Tenchi."

Mizuka frowned.

"Our guards keep them out of the village, but sometimes they linger, waiting for people to enter.  I'll send Ryu to sort it out."

The man was unconscious and Iruka looked a little scared.

"You got him here in time. He's going to be fine. His vitals are good and so is his color."

Iruka breathed a sigh of relief before she continued.

"However, you're probably going to be here for a couple of days while he recovers. Of course you don't have to sit with him, but we do appreciate teammates not returning home without-"

"Teams do that?"

"You wouldn't believe what I've seen."

"I'm staying. And if you don't mind, I'd like to stay here with him."

She gave him a smile. He had turned into a handsome adult. He still had that prominent scar across the bridge of his nose that crinkled when he smiled. Mizuka began to stitch up the injured shinobi.  She began to make small talk, trying to put him at ease.

"So, how have things been? How has the village been since I left?"

He shrugged.

"It's been surprisingly peaceful since the Nine Tails attack."

"Have you been doing routine missions? You're a Jonin now, right?"

"Actually, no.  I'm still a Chuunin.  I've been teaching for the past year. I'm more interested in teaching than becoming a Jonin, to be honest. My passion, Ive found out, doesn't lie in being a mission Captain. Actually, your little sister is in my class."
