The pain laying in the hospital bed in Tenchi was worse than any Ino had ever felt before. It was as if a million hot needles were embedded deep under her skin, burning her alive. Outside of the room, he could hear Tsunade speaking to Shizune in a quiet, urgent voice.
"Where is she? In here?"
Mizuka's voice traveled into the room. This was not good.
"Ino, I'm raising your pain medication. I have to mix the salve to pull the barbs out of your skin. Hang in there."
Ino could feel the vomit spewing from her mouth, but it was as if she were in a different world. There was only pain; anything that happened outside of pain was nothing. She heard the screams come out of her mouth as her body curled backward involuntarily. Mizuka quickly turned her to her side, but the places where she touched became white hot with pain. She let out another scream of agony, making her throat become instantly raw, but that didn't matter. Nothing mattered anymore. Just making the pain stop. Mizuka pulled back immediately.
"Bring me a syringe of scopolamine and morphine! STAT!"
A minute later, Shizune rushed in with a syringe. Mizuka jammed it into her shaking leg, emptying it quickly. The pain didn't stop, but she was beginning to lose consciousness. It was like heaven. She heard Mizuka's voice.
"You're going to be fine, Babe. See you soon."

Iruka ran up to the hospital and flew in through the front door.
"Down the hall and to the right! 110! She's okay, Sensei!"
He heard that Ino had been hit by a poisoned kunai, and Ryujin had gotten to Haru. That was all he knew. And he was fucking terrified.
He glanced into the door of 108 as he was approaching 110, and what he saw stopped him in this tracks. Sakura was hunched over Ino, who was covered in tubes and surrounded by machines. Sai was sitting by the head of her bed, his forehead against her cheek as Sakura was pulling something bloody out of her chest and throwing it into a small basin with tweezers. She looked up.
"110 Sensei."
"Is she..."
"She'll be fine. I put her under because Firethorn is incredibly painful."
She pointed to him and then to the room next door. He ducked out and into 110.
It was quiet, consisting of Haru laying on the bed, Shizune stitching her chest, and Kakashi sitting there quietly, observing. Her left leg was heavily bandaged.
"Haru?"
Kakashi put a hand up, stopping him. Then, Haru gave him a subtle thumbs up, although the rest of her didn't move. The room felt oddly calm for Ryujin reappearing, and he knew Kakashi intended to keep it that way. Kakashi motioned for him to come and sit down. He accepted the quiet invitation, sitting next to Haru's bed. She had a look of overwhelming shock on her face. She looked over at him.
"She's not supposed to talk while Shizune patches her up, so she can get the stitches as even as possible. But, yes, Ryujin infiltrated the village with an accomplice and found Haru. She was with Ino, who took on the accomplice until he struck her with a poisoned kunai.
"Firethorn."
Shizune interjected, Kakashi nodded.
"The same thing Shikamaru was poisoned with a couple of years ago. Luckily, Sai was almost to her already and he slit the man's throat and took Ino immediately to the hospital. We suspected it immediately and mixed the antidote quickly. Also, Sakura is in the village this week as well, which was also lucky. We're spread a little thin and she trained under Tsunade. Stars aligned on this one, or else this could've had a much different outcome."
