I got up super early the next morning to go see Ashton. I was dying to see him. I wanted to make sure he was alright, even though I new he was. Why wouldn't he be? I just wanted to give him a huge hug and tell him I loved him. I ran into my bathroom and put my hair into a messy bun and slapped on some makeup. I went to my closet and threw on some ripped skinny jeans and a navy blue cami. I tip toed into Ashton's room and took one of his shirts to wear. I rolled up the sleeves and threw on some black Vans before getting into Luke's car and driving in the direction of the hospital.
Before going to see Ashton, I went to McDonalds to get him something to eat along with myself. Hospital food is nasty and I wasn't about to make him have to eat it. I ordered some smoothies to go along with the food and drove to the hospital, probably going past the speed limit again. I didn't care, as usual.
I pulled into the parking lot and rushed to the front desk. It was a different lady working than last time. "I'm here for Ashton Irwin." I told her. I impatiently waited while she typed something into her computer. "Room 5F" She grumbled. She looked like she wanted to take a gun to her head. I thanked her and went up to his room before knocking on the door.
A nurse came to the door. "Oh uh hey is Ashton in here?" I asked awkwardly. "Yes" She said with a smile before letting me in. "Ashton you have a visitor" she said to him. He looked up from his phone and smiled. "Hey baby!" He said, almost shouting. "Hi" I giggled, setting down the McDonalds stuff and running to his bed. He scooched over so that I could sit next to him on the bed. He kissed my cheek before slouching down a little bit.
"How are ya doing today?" I asked him. He smiled. "Good and better now that you're here" "Well it just got better because I got you McDonalds!" I told him, getting up from the bed and handing him his smoothie and a big bag. "Oh babe you shouldn't have!" He exclaimed, taking the bag and digging around in it to see what I got him.
"So have you been able to talk to your mum at all?" I asked him, breaking the awkward silence. "No, she won't want to talk to me." He replied, taking another sip of his smoothie. "Why not?" "Beacuse, Rowan. She kicked me out for the summer. If she wanted to talk to me she would have called but she hasn't so she doesn't want to, obviously."
"So she doesn't know you're in the hospital?" I asked, concerned. "No." He answered, trying to avoid the topic. I sat there for a minute, thinking. "I'll be right back." I told him. "Where are you going?" "I think I left something in the car." I lied. I left his room and walked down the hall a few steps, before dialing his mum's number. I had no idea what time it was in Australia, but I hoped she would answer. It ringed a few times before she answered the phone.
"Hello?" I heard her voice say. "Hi, is this Ashton's mum?" I asked, hoping it wasn't a wrong number. "Yes, who is this?" She said, sounding confused. "Uh this is Rowan Evans. I went to school with Ashton and I was his tutor." I informed, trying to sound calm. "Oh hello, sweetie. Did you need something? Ashton isn't home right now he's at-" I cut her off. "LA in the summer house with his mates. Yeah I know. Luke invited me to come along too. "
"Oh I see." "I just thought you had the right to know what has been going on the past few months." I told her. "I'm listening." "At the beginning of the summer, Ashton and I hated each other. He was out to get me, I was out to get him, you get the idea." "Yes?" " Anyways, as the weeks progressed, we made ammends and fell in love. We are dating now." "..." "So I'm kind of his girlfriend and stuff." "Anything else?" "Yes" "Okay... what?" she asked, sounding puzzled.
"I think you should know that Ashton feels unwanted. He thinks that you won't want to talk to him anymore because of who he was in the past. I just wanted to let you know that he's changed. He's so sweet and nice and a great person. One night he confessed to me that he felt broken. He said he struggled with you and another getting divorced and how his life was just a little rough. He never wanted to confess those feelings and kept it inside. He didn't know how to handle his emotions so he took the role of the school bully bad boy. He never really meant it."
"He was so good at home, I was absolutely mortified that he was expelled. I doubt he's really changed. Who knows what else he's hiding-" "Mrs. Irwin he's been hospitalized." ".......What?" "Yesterday he found out he had appendicitis and needed to have his appendix removed. It was scary for all of us. He didn't want to contact you beacause he thought you wouldn't want to talk to him. I'm visiting him now and I just thought that maybe you should know."
There was silence on the line for a little. "Can you put him on?"
*Ashton's POV*
What did she leave in the car? She was taking forever. I continued eating the food she brought me. After a few more minutes of being alone, she came into the room with her phone up to her ear. She was probably talking to Luke or something. I doubt she told them where she was off to. She never did tell anybody when she went somewhere. Girls.
"Ashton, somebody on the phone wants to talk to you." She said, handing me the phone. I looked at it and a familiar number had been dialed. I looked up at her, not knowing what to say. I was almost too scared to say a word. She sat down on the bed and took my large hand in my small one. "Go ahead, babe" She said encouragingly.
"Hello? Mum?" I stuttered into the phone. "Ashton..." I could tell she was crying by her tone of voice. "Mum I am sorry I got expelled." I wimpered. "I never meant any real harm. It was like I was two different people. The real me was always the Ashton you saw at home. I don't know what went through my head. Mum, I'm so sorry I- I- I just feel so bad and I wanna come home mum I'm really sorry I-" "Ashton, sweetie just calm down. Shhh. Take it easy. Settle down."
"Mumma I-" "Why wouldn't you tell me you were in the hospital, baby?" "I didn't think you cared." "Ashton, of course I care. No matter how upset with you I was I never stopped caring. You're my baby. I love you, Ashton." "I love you, too Mumma." "You can come right home whenever you want to, baby. You can bring Rowan along too, if you would like." "Thank you, Mumma." "I have to go, work. I love you Ashton. I never stopped." "Bye love you."
I hung up the phone and handed it back to Rowan. She smiled at me and squeezed my hand. "Thank you so so much." I said. I grabbed her and pulled her into my arms, and pressing a passionate kiss against her lips. "I love you, Ash" "Thank you."a/n- okay for real this chapter is a little longer but I just had so much fun with it! I was tearing up a little is that weird???
