Today is Devin's house warming party. I'm pretty excited to go. It's the first one I've ever been to, so picking out an outfit was weird.
What do you wear to a house warming party? I asked Tony.
Clothes, he replied bluntly.
So yea, Tony isn't super thrilled that I'm going. He still has that idea of Devin as a threat, which he isn't. We have been talking a lot more lately, but it's totally friendship basis. We have a lot in common. Tony doesn't admit he's jealous but I can tell. At times he's easy to read, but most of the time, I don't have a single clue.
Devin texted the address to me a couple hours ago. Now Lynn and I are on our way to the place. After being lost for ten minutes we finally find our destination. I'm immediately impressed and surprised. His house is in the suburbs and it's ginormous. He's definitely living the life. How could he afford such a house working at a tattoo shop? He must come from a pretty wealthy family.
"This is not what I expected," Lynn says reading my mind as we walk up the two steps to his front door.
Before I can knock, it opens and Devin stands there with a red cup in his hand. He smiles.
"So glad you guys came. Come on into my fortress."
We do so and I'm in awe. This house is perfect. Not a man cave like I was expecting to see either. He's a music guy, that's for sure. Records and old posters decorate the walls. Classic, is how I would describe it.
"Kitchen is that way," He points. "Living room, opposite direction. The party is really in the backyard. You guys can head back there whenever you'd like. There's three bathrooms. Two downstairs and one upstairs. Thanks for coming."
"No," Lynn smiles. "Thank you for inviting us."
"It was my pleasure. See you guys around." Devin leaves us alone to greet more entering guests.
"I swear Audrey if you don't marry this man, I will." Her tone is playful, but I roll my eyes anyway.
"Shut up," I groan. "I'm hungry, let's go get some food."
Together we make our way into the kitchen. There's barely any people in here so it's easy to put a bunch of food on a plate. Good food at that. Lots of variety. Fruits, meats, veggies, flood the counters. You can tell he ordered most of it from a restaurant.
After grabbing all of our desired goodies, Lynn and I make our way outside. The fence is lined with lights and there's a big fire pit in the middle of it all. We sit outside at one of the set up tables. That's when we spot Jeff and Corey who join us. We talk for awhile, admiring how nice it was out. The stars are really bright.
Suddenly, I feel a tap on my shoulder. I look up to Devin.
"Can I talk to you in private real quick?" He seems impatient.
"Sure." I get up from my seat and he guides me back into the house. When I realize we're going upstairs, I figure this is really private.
"If you don't mind." He opens a door to what looks like a bedroom.
My gut is telling me no, but I'm curious. Why the hell would he drag me all the way up here? If he does try anything one hit to the balls should take him out. Plus, if his intentions were to hurt me why would he have a party going on at the exact same time? Lynn, Corey, and Jeff know I left with him. God Audrey you're overthinking.
I sigh before entering the room. It's his bedroom, the grand one.
"What'd you need to tell me?" I turn to him, gradually getting more anxious. He shuts the door behind him causing all the chatter and music to go silent.
