San Francisco, here I come. Danielle and I get up early that Friday morning, 5:00 in the morning early, with our stuff ready to go. We both decided that driving the eight hours is better than paying for an airplane ticket. The prices on those things are ridiculous. Plus, I'm a sucker for long car rides. They relax me in a way.
Mom has no idea I'm coming, I thought surprising her would be nice. Maybe Danielle wouldn't mind leaving us alone for a couple hours to eat at our favorite diner like we always used to. I miss her a lot.
"Are you ready?" Danielle asks standing by the doorway.
"Let's do this."

The first pit stop was fast. Danielle went inside and grabbed a bunch of munchies while I put gas in the car. We didn't listen to the radio once. Either the aux cord was plugged in, or there was a CD being played.
Late by Issues suddenly comes on. Danielle smirks my way, from the driver's seat. I already know what she's going to bring up.
"How did that party go anyways?" She asks.
"It was good, interesting."
"How so?"
"I learned that Tyler does have a crush on me. Jeffree Star let me in on the secret."
"Secret?" She scoffs. "C'mon now, we all noticed. I'm going to tell you something, but you can't get mad."
I wait, preparing myself.
"I sorta told Lynn to take Alexa so you'd have a reason to talk to Tyler more."
Here I am thinking it was something huge, I shrug.
"Nothing happened."
She looks half disappointed.
"How much longer do we have till we've arrived?"
"About three more hours left," I glance at my phone GPS. "We're making great progress."
"I think I'm getting car sick," She sighs. "I'm so used to going on planes everywhere."
"Stop making excuses," I tease. "But if you're being serious, I'll drive the rest."
She shakes her head. "Like you said, it's only three hours."
I leave it at that and we continue on our journey...

When we arrive to SF, memories began to flood through my mind. We passed places I knew all too well. My mom's house is near Pier 39, so the traffic getting there is always a pain. Danielle has quite the road rage, it's entertaining to watch her go crazy.
"Where do I go next?" She sighs, obviously frustrated.
"Make a left," I answer.
She does so and after giving her a few more directions, we arrive at my house. It looks the same from when I left. Brown, red mailbox, and a bunch of nomes out in front. They always used to freak me out as a kid. Kyle would tell me scary stories about how they came to life at night, searching for children souls.
"This is cute," Danielle comments as we make our way up to the door.
"Right?" I smile. "So just a heads up, my mom gets nervous around new people. Be polite, but don't be too polite, she gets intimidated easily."
"Or maybe I could say nothing at all," She jokes. "Hurry and knock on the door, we're standing outside like creeps."
I obey her and wait for Mom emerge. The door swings open and instead of seeing her, Kyle stands there.
