24. Safe in Sanctuary

Danse's POV

To say everyone was welcoming was an understatement...

Mama Murphy and all the older people kept checking on me, asking if I needed anything.

I told them I was fine, a little flustered with all the attention.

I spent most of the time with (Y/N) or Dogmeat...

And everyone else in Sanctuary including the ghouls and other synths and robots were very understanding and welcoming as well.

It was like I was living under a rock when I was with the Brotherhood...

All these people have their own lives and problems and hopes and dreams just like I do.

However...

One morning when I woke up, (Y/N) was gone.

I checked the whole house, before running across the road to Sturges.

"Oh! The General and some others went to the Castle. Somethings going down there..."

He said, confused as to why I was here and not attached at the hip to (Y/N) Like I usually am.

I had just run back to the house to grab my power armour and join them when-

"OI THEYRE BACK!"

Someone called,

I saw a swarm of people rush past my house to go help the injured.

I abandoned my armour to rush out with them,

At the front of the march was (Y/N) with Preston by her side.

I rushed up to her,

I didnt normally like public displays of affection but right now I was just glad she was safe.

I grabbed her in a bone crushing hug, giving her forehead a kiss.

I pulled back to have a look and see if she was ok,

She was bleeding from a cut on her forehead and her lip was busted but other then that and a few other cuts and scraps she looked fine.

"What happened? Why didnt you wake me?"

She gave me a tight smile and a pat on the arm,

"The institute attacked the castle..."

She sighed,

"Killed a lot of our men... but we held em off..."

Her eyes glistened slightly and I pulled her into another hug.

"Danse... we have to stop him.."

She said softly against my chest.

I nodded slowly.

"Let's talk about this inside..."

Once we were both back in the house i grabbed the first aid kit.

I had to patch up a few soldiers in the past but I was never great at it.

I brushed her hair out the way to check her forehead for the cut,

Her eyes never left mine as I started to clean away the blood with a clothe.

".... Danse we have to stop Shaun..."

She said softly,

"... are you sure?"

"Do I have a choice?"

I stopped what I was doing so I could look at her properly.

I knew she hated crying but right now she didnt seem to care, the tears mixing with the blood on her face.

I sighed,

"..... I dont know... we can try save him. Drag him out if we have to-"

"But the institute has to go down. I know..."

It was silent for a while as I finished cleaning her face...

I took the first aid kit and the clothe back to the kitchen, dumping it all in the sink and putting the kit back in the cuboard,

"Danse..."

I turned, looking over my shoulder at her as she messed with her wedding ring.

She hesitantly pulled another from her pocket, identical to her own.

She approached me slowly before handing it to me over the island that separated the lounge and the kitchen.

It was beautiful and golden...

"... it was Nates."

I looked up in surprise.

"Obviously I proposed to him... it's no surprise."

She laughed,

"... but... this isnt a proposal... its whatever you want it to be."

She hesitantly looked up at me through her lashes.

"Be it marriage, or a promise or whatever... I want you to have it."

She explained,

"The only thing I want you to know when I give you this ring is that I love you..."

The words nearly knocked me off my feet,

Maybe it was the whole gesture and the confession,

She slowly took the ring from me and slipped it onto my ring finger.

".... I love you to."

I muttered softly which made her smile,

"Heh, I know."

She leaned up to give me a soft, delicate kiss.

One promising a life together, and that more was to come.

But that would have to wait until after we dealt with the institute...

A/N: sorry this chapters kinda short...
But yeah we're almost finished the book!

Danse: I'm going to miss you Parker.

A/N: I'll miss you to Danse...
