15. Atom Bomb Baby

Danse POV

We left in the early hours of the morning,

Before anyone else in Sanctuary had gotten up.

Both of us geared up in our power armour and started the long walk to the Glowing Sea.

We listened to the Diamond City Radio, it was actually quite nice, and every now and then (Y/N) would bop her head to the beat or tap her foot or even hum along.

I just watched, that sounds creepy but it was... nice seeing her more relaxed.

I'm glad she feels more relaxed around me.

The glowing sea? No problem.

There were a few ferals and we avoided the Deathclaw we happened to come across.

Following the directions on (Y/N) pip boy we came across a crater.

"What the hell..."

I breathed as we looked at a small town of people walking around with no protection in the middle of one of the most insane and dangerous radiation storms I'd ever seen.

"I guess we go down?"

(Y/N) said more like a question and skidded down the small hill,

I sighed before following after her.

We walked past a couple of people who gave us strange looks.

No one stood out and evertime we approached someone, they'd mumble something about Atom before hurrying away.

Finally, we saw a woman standing with her arms spread to the sky on the porch of a house that overlooked the others.

We approached cautiously and as we got closer I got a better look at her.

Her short black hair was in a tangled mess and her eyes were wide and bloodshot.

"Stop right there strangers."

The woman said to us

"You approach Atom's holy ground... why? State your purpose or be divided in his sight."

I raised an eyebrow, confused.

Not that she could see with my helmet though.

"Holy ground? Atom? What is going on here?"

I asked confused,

The woman seemed shocked,

"Atom reached out and touched this world, bringing his glow to us. It remains to this day a reminder of his promise. Infinite worlds through division..."

Wait... I think I've heard of these people.

Didnt these guys worship radiation?

Ah geez...

(Y/N) nodded,

"I'm looking for someone named Virgil. Have you seen him?"

The woman clasped her hands together,

"Yes. I know of him... in truth this Virgil caused some concern. Some believe his presence is an affront to Atom."

The woman looked at me then (Y/N),

"Though he came to trade with us on a few occasions, we have had little other contact with him. It was quite clear he wanted to be left alone. You can find him southwest of the crater, living in a cave. I would approach cautiously, were I you, I feel he does not want visitors."

(Y/N) looked back at me and nodded,

"Thank you miss."

We turned away to start following the womans directions and (Y/N) leaned close to me.

My cheeks heated up and my heart pounded in my chest but she couldnt tell, Thankfully.

"Who are these guys?"

She whispers to me,

We both look over our shoulder at the woman and find her starring at us, her eyes opened unnaturally wide and her smile stretching so wide that it looked like her cheeks would break.

We quickly looked away.

"The sons of Atom. They worship the radiation and see it as sort of a... cleansing of this world."

"...so basically the radiation got to their heads?"

I shrugged, smiling slightly.

"Basically."

(Y/N) snorted and started to laugh, and I couldnt help but look over at her.

I couldn't see her smile but her laugh made my heart feel warm and I gently smiled under my mask.

"Geez. Poor guys. Atleast they remembered where Virgil is right?"

"You hope they remember where he is, otherwise we're blindly running around the Glowing Sea which isnt exactly a good thing."

She laughs again and we keep walking.

We hiked for a while before we finally saw a cave...

The cave door was too small for our armours to fit through so we climbed out of them and hurried inside.

Taking some Rad-X and Radaway.

(PS I know that's not true but I just want them out of the armour)

I was too busy looking behind me at my power armour to notice the tin cans in front of me,

So I walked into them, making them clank loudly and (Y/N) turns around and gives me a look.

"Sorry-"

I abruptly stop and look up, (Y/N) follows my gaze and takes a step back, bumping into me.

A giant Super Mutant stood in front of us, he had round glasses on that barely fit him,

"...so... the institute finally caught up to me...
You're here to kill me aren't you?"

A/N: I'm so sorry it's been so long but I just wasnt feeling inspired-
But now hopefully I'm back!
Also sorry this chapters kinda short-
