(Y/N) POV

Danse and I were helping out the smaller settlements,

Going around taking out ghouls or raiders or bringing food for em.

We stopped along the river for a break, I handed him half a sweet roll as I munched down on mine.

Out the corner of my eye I could see Danse just starring at the food I handed him, deep in thought.

"Danse?"

"Do... could we talk about something..?"

I was a little nervous when he said that,

Danse very rarely spoke about his emotions, even with me.

"Sounds important. Go ahead."

"It is important but... I dont even know where to start. Theres so much to say."

He looked from his sweet roll to his wedding ring,

"Take it easy, Danse. Whatever it is, I'll help you work through it."

I gave him a reassuring smile.

"I dont know if anything will help me work through it..."

I gazed at him, worried.

"I've spent my entire life... or atleast what I perceive as my life... following a plan to shape my own future..."

He sighed,

"But since my banishment I feel... lost... almost like I exist without a purpose..."

Danse didnt really talk about the Brotherhood anymore, or his banishment or being a synth...

Everytime I tried to bring it up he would brush it off,

He clearly didnt like talking about it, so I was proud of him for opening up now.

"For the first time since the moment I signed up with the Brotherhood, I dont have all the answers... I dont have a plan..."

He looked away, ashamed.

"And it scares the hell out of me..."

"What you've gone through would throw anyone through a loop... you're just confused..."

I tried to reassure,

"You're damn right I'm confused. I'm a machine who thinks like a human who was trained to hunt the very thing before become."

He looked at me now, his eyes full of hurt.

"Dont you understand? Everything I had, everything I knew is gone! In the spane of a few hours my identity was ripped from me and my world was turned upside down!"

He took a shaky breath,

"Atleast what you had was something tangible... something real! Your husband your son, they were living breathing humans who loved you and cared for you!"

He pointed at where the CIT ruins once were,

"Those sons of bitches who created me couldnt even be bothered to implant memories of having siblings or parents! I dont even know how much of my own past is artificial and how much is real! Can you even imagine that?"

He run a shaky hand through his dark hair,

"I started out as nothing... and I've ended as nothing... and I dont know what the hell to do about it."

Tears threatened to spill from his eyes, he glared at the ground he sat on, holding back a wave of emotions.

My own eyes were glistening... I never knew he was holding this in... bottling up all his emotions...

"I'm truly sorry Danse... I guess I never realised how deeply this affected you."

"I appreciate that..."

He hesitantly reached his hand for mine, I inter locked our fingers together and give his hand a squeeze in reassurance.

He sighed,

"Maybe I'm just missing the point... my lifes starting over, and I need to come to term with everything I've lost... and everything I've gained."

He lifted his head and gave me a weak smile,

"Which includes something important you made me realise... I do love you... but I'm a machine-"

I laughed which made him stop talking and look at me in confusion,

"You're not a machine Danse! In fact, you're more human then most people could hope to be."

I gave him a gentle smile, which he returned,

"You dont know how much it means to me to hear you say that..."

He blushed, a deep scarlet red dancing over his cheeks as he looked away sheepishly.

"Look... I'm not going to lie to you. You're going to have to be patient with me... coming to terms with... well..."

He gestured to himself,

"Is going to be difficult but..."

He looked at me again,

"If we can tackle those obstacles together, I think that this relationship could last a very long time..."

I smiled and closed the gap between us, giving him a soft kiss pulling back just enough to say,

"I was thinking the exact same thing."
