Elvina dumped the leaves in the pile again and sat on the floor, resting her head against a sharp rock. Her decisions within the last few days hadn't been... very well advised, as per say, and she was starting to regret listening to Kai's voice.
I should have just crossed the bridge when I got the chance, she thought with frustration as she kneeled and began working on making the second bed.
The leaves were all soft and lush. She had hand picked large leaves with the most flexibility and comfort and now had the tedious task of arranging the leaves to make a decently comfortable bed.
All while Kai made her wish she was sleeping as well.
Elvina laid out the first layer of leaves, making sure they were parallel and well arranged. Then, she layered on the second layer using the same leaves. After that, she picked out the extra large leaves that were shaped like giant Ginkgo leaves and placed four of them, two stacked on top of each other on two ends of the bed.
Elvina examined her final outcome and smiled slightly. The first bed she had made for Kai. It took a few extra leaves since he was a little taller than her but she was quite happy with the outcome. Even more so when she had finished her own bed as well.
The sunlight made stunning patterns on the cave's walls as it reflected through the running water just outside the entrance. With the large cavern dimming ever so slowly, Elvina knew the sun was about to set soon and stretched gently before softly laying on the bed and descending into her thoughts.
Most of them were negative. Emotions swirling with regret, anxiety, and fear.
But a part of her sparkled with hope. Whatever coldness had shifted between her and Kai, maybe this was her chance to fix it. Maybe, she and him could figure some stuff out.
Maybe.

Kai's eyes fluttered open, adjusting to the darkness. His ears picked up on the running water just outside as he remembered where he was. Or at least his situation.
Where was a complicated question. They'd been pushed downriver off a waterfall. Where was currently not an easy question to answer.
He yawned before extending his arms over his head and giving his body a good stretch. Events from last night came barrelling through his brain as he stood up, trying to figure out where he was.
No, it was night right now. So yesterday evening's events? Kai gave up on trying to figure out what day it was. He'd ask Elvina later. Instead, using his enhanced vision, he spotted Elvina asleep on her bed of leaves and next to him, Kai noticed a bed made especially for him. A warm feeling spread through him as he thought of the fact that Elvina made it.
