A voice laughed behind her. Somewhat of a choking chuckle. Elvina ran and ran until the blackness over took her, swallowing her into a deep dark--
She woke up with a jolt. Elvina straightened and took a deep breath, slowly rolling her neck and cracking her knuckles to alleviate some of the tension that had settled there.
Right, Elvina glanced around, she was supposed to be keeping watch. However, the night loomed on and she had shifted into such a comfortable position on a rock, sleep was more of a necessity rather than a thing to avoid.
She groaned as the tingling sensation poked her foot for the seventh time. Bending her knee, she stomped it on the floor before shaking it. If they had taught her anything, school assemblies had shown her a quick way to awaken her sleeping foot.
Elvina stretched and got up, giving her limbs a quick stretch before walking down the slope. The waterfall roared in her ears as she briskly walked towards the pool.
Kai had suggested keeping watch right outside the cave. That way, they could see everything at a height and be prepared. But it was almost morning and Elvina was thirsty; the only source of water being the pond below.
She kneeled at the pond's edge before cupping her hands delicately and bringing the refreshing liquid to her mouth.
Her eyes watched the moonlight dance over the rippling surface of the water. Who knew what things could be lurking down there.
Once she was finished, Elvina stood up and walked back towards the slope, picking up a stick on the way. She sat down with an almost inaudible 'oof' before moving her legs into a 'v', playing with the stick in between them.
Elvina wasn't a big fan of drawing, mainly because she could create stunning music but art was really out of her forte. Except stick figures. She excelled in giving life to stick figures.
She held the stick like a pencil before starting to draw random lines in the dirt. When she wasn't satisfied her other hand swiped across the surface, covering up her mistakes. It wasn't long before her hands were tired from sketching repeatedly. Elvina yawned before glancing up, a sliver of relief coursing through her as the sky visibly lightened. Her head was starting to ache as she gently leaned it against the rock behind her.
Just a few more hours and she'd get a break. Either Kai would go food hunting, avoiding the raspberries, of course, oor she would. Both things were better than sitting here and doing nothing apart from complementing stick figures in a restaurant eating stuff.
The pebbles dug into her back as she laid down, trying to refrain from yawning again which ultimately broke through. Her hair was dirty to say the least and it wouldn't get any cleaner by her laying down and sleeping in the dust. Uncaringly, she spread herself out like a starfish and simply stared at the disappearing stars.
