Elvina clenched her jaw as she stubbed her toe. Again.
She'd lost track of how many times she'd stubbed it and at this point, it was numb. She wouldn't be surprised if it was bleeding.
Her hand raised up, brushing away the branches that came in her way. The sun hadn't risen yet soo she was only seeing things based on her glow.
Elvina had woken up to rainwater almost reaching her sleeping form. Apparently, the elves forgot to mention that it rained.
She realized the last wing was coming in soon. From the dates Kai had told her and the days the Serephine had given, the last wing was to happen in about two days, which was also all she had to find the Amulet of Dragons.
Why it was called that, she had no idea. These guys were elves, not even dragons. But she didn't doubt for a second that there wasn't an extravagant story behind it.
Drops of water rained on her head as they rolled down from the branches. The air around her was humid and starting to get hot. The glow she emitted was drying her clothes as the raindrops splashed onto them.
Ellvina pulled out her map and squinted her eyes to get a better look at what she was supposed to look out for. She was treating these items like benchmarks; things she had to reach. From what she had calculated, if she reached at least two a day, she'd get to the Amulet of Dragoons but if she wanted to get it on the third day, she needed to get there earlier.
Because of that, Elvina resorted to reaching three benchmarks a day. It was quite a stretch but if she reached this goal, she'd have enough time to get the amulet.
Out of the three benchmarks, Elvina had just slept in the third one and now, as she awaited dawn, was heading for the fourth one.
The floor under her feet was littered with fallen leaves, dead plants, insects, and a lot of mud. It squelched under her shoes (which she'd refused to change so they were the worn and slightly burnt ones from back home) and felt really sticky as her foot came up every time she took a step. It didn't help that her enhanced hearing caused her to hear it loud and clear as well.
A raindrop splashed in her head and hit a certain spot that forced a shudder down her back as it rolled under her robes. It was cold and took a while to evaporate. The long sleeves of her attire helped a little bit with the constant chill around the forest. Despite it being humid, the forest failed to retain the heat it had gathered during the previous day.
Elvina blamed it on the shadows, but she was no meteorologist.
She cracked her knuckles as her path turned into a normal traill, a sigh to show she was nervous. Back at home, she hadn't visited a lot of forests and lived in a hot, dry, desert so the darkness of the woodland around her wasn't something she would have liked to brave.
