Chapter 28

Another day, another moment of thinking of how to dodge Kade.

I walked past Roy.

"Hey Lane," he said.

"Hi," I replied.

"Hey um, listen. I need to ask you something but you need to promise me you won't hit me or something." he said.

"Heh. Maybe," I said.

"Let's walk while I tell you.I saw you and Cameron kiss yesterday." He said bluntly.

"How do you know about that?" I wasn't angry I was embarrassed which made me sound angry.

"I was looking for you and then, I went there then I saw you fighting over some paper and then he kissed you." he said. He was looking down smiling in the sad way.

For some weird reason I felt sorry for him. We continued walking. I guess he was walking me home.
But I was speechless.

"Do you mind making a pit stop?" He asked.

"Uh, sure." I replied.

We stopped at a familiar playground. Oh, the playground we always used to play at. I haven't been here in so long. I barely even glance at it anymore. I guess he does.

I sat on the swing and he sat beside me.

"So uh, you and Cameron are um, dating?" He asked still doing that looking down thing.

"No. No! I think. But no. It was just a kiss he put on me.It did not affect me." I lied.

"Right so, you aren't." he said.

"Mhmm. You know Ela,the reason I moved to this school was because of you." He said.

"You did?"

"Yeah. In my old school, I had a girlfriend. I guess she really liked me. Cause when I told her I had feelings for someone else, she wanted to know who and why. I felt bad but good at the same time. I get to see you but I broke someone's heart,"

"Did you like her back?" I asked side glancing him.

"Of course. I wouldn't date someone I don't like. But, no matter how, she wasn't-" he cut himself out.

"She wasn't?" I asked.

He sighed and chuckled sadly.

"She wasn't you." he finished.

My eyes grew big.

"Roy, I well, ugh, I don't know. I'm sorry," I didn't know what I was apologising for, but it felt right.

"Oh,don't say sorry. I know it's stupid to just miraculously like you." he said finally looking up but not at me.

"But enough with this sad shit. It's giving me a heart bleed." he said getting up.

He offered a hand and I took it as he helped me up.

"Why would you even go through this for me?" I asked.

"Cause when you like someone, you can't just suddenly stop," he said.

"Huh," was all I could say.

"I just wanted to tell you that I'm going to try to win your heart. Even if not that, I don't want to be disliked by you or something. I want to stay friends. So if my plan fails, I'll be able to cheer for you during your wedding with the lucky man you marry." he said.

I smiled. Then hugged him.

"Hmm, like anyone would marry me. But thanks anyway. Can I confess something to you? This is so unlike me but, after what you told me I guess it's necessary." I said.

"Sure," he said shrugging.

"Well, I, gosh, how can I say this? I still like you a little too," I confessed.

He smiled.

"Fist pump?" he asked.

I nodded. And we lamely did a fist pump.
