Lover by Taylor Swift -
"All's well that ends well to end up with you."

Dec. 5th
I looked around from the middle of the dance floor and just felt utter bliss. The bass of the music was pounding in my ears, lights of all different colors were swirling around, and the faces of the people who were closest to me and my new husband (yes, I know, a man) were surrounding us. Everyone was having the time of their lives fueled by Cardi B, an open bar, and the kind of energy that only a wedding could give.Yes, it was my wedding day, and everything was perfect. I met Kevin when we were freshmen in college at the University of Tampa in Florida. He played on the men's golf team and I played on the softball team. We were both very good athletes and would go to each other's games/tournaments whenever our schedules would allow it. We were also fairly good students. Kev majored in business marketing while I majored in education with a perfect 4.0.
I had so many people ask me why I would major in education when teacher's don't make a lot of money, parents don't appreciate you and you constantly have to jump through hoops that your administration and the state governments give you. My answer was always the same. The kids need teachers who genuinely care about them and are willing to go the extra mile to make sure they get the academic and emotional support they need. Bottom line. End of story. Period.
I got a job at the high school I graduated from right out of college and was hired as an intensive reading teacher for 11th graders for the first half of the day and a P.E. coach for the second half of the day. It was honestly the perfect schedule. I could help the kids who really needed it and teach kids who hated to read that it could actually be really fun and a way to escape from everyday life, and then play basketball and football in the afternoon. I honestly loved it.
On top of all that, I was the school's head softball coach. That was my absolute favorite thing about where I worked. It was the same program that I played for in high school so my love for it ran deep. I loved being with my girls every day and helping them to become better players, teammates, and overall humans. A lot of people don't realize it, but kids learn so much about life during after school activities. Accountability, teamwork, leadership, respect, and so much more. I always try to relate whatever we do on the field to the real world as well because sadly, softball isn't forever. One day they'll be an old washed up retired athlete whose body aches in new places every day, just like their coach. They will forget the clutch hits and diving plays, but they will never forget their teammates, coaches, and how the game made them feel. Take it from someone who is retired. That's a fact.
But, enough about me. Back to the wedding. I took a seat because I was sweating and my feet were screaming from wearing these heels all damn day. Fun fact about me: I hate wearing heels.
"Hey wife," I heard Kev say as he stood behind my chair and draped his arms on my shoulders.
I craned my neck to meet his eyes as a soft smile filled my face. "Hey husband"
"Looks like the party portion of the night is dying down. What do you say we get our stuff and head to the next location" he said as he wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.
I chuckled back at his cheeky remark. "Sure babe, let me just tell my parents and Taylor that we are leaving and we can go"
Taylor is my best friend. We met in kindergarten and have been inseparable ever since. She was also my maid of honor tonight and gave a killer speech filled with dirty jokes and Taylor Swift references. She knows me so well.
Once I said all my goodbyes and tied up any loose ends with the venue, Kev and I made our way out to the car and to the hotel we had booked for the night. We drove away and I just couldn't help but feel content. He really was my best friend before anything else. I looked over at him and admired how his face looked as the street lights passed by periodically lighting up his features and casting the most interesting shadows on his face. His sixth sense kicked in and he looked over at me with a raised eyebrow. "What?"
"Nothing" I replied softly with a small grin on my face. "Just happy". I returned my gaze to the road ahead and couldn't help but think how I was going to spend the rest of my life being amazed by this man and looking into his eyes whenever I wanted...
Right?
