Seoul Memorial Hospital
5.44 amHong Chayoung finally set foot in the large hospital. Her coat covered her up to the neck with her heels against the cold marble floor. It's been 5 years since she first stepped foot at Seoul Memorial, the most prestigious hospital in South Korea, as a fresh grad medical student. Finally, she finished her residency years and she almost finished her fellowship as a neurologist.
Chayoung spent most of her youth studying while working part time, not necessarily because she needed the money. She came from a pretty well-off family, her father owns a pretty famous lawfirm, Jipuragi. However, Chayoung wasn't raised as a spoiled kid eventhough she is just an only child. She lost her mother due to an accident when she was just 6 years old.
Eversince that accident, her father, Hong Yuchan, tried to bury himself in work. That forced little Chayoung to grow up faster. She tried to bury herself in her study as well, trying to forget the pain of losing her mother as well as the guilt of not being able to save her mother that night. That hugely affect Chayoung's decision to pursue med, eventhough she knew her father secretly wanted her to be a lawyer as well.
Chayoung rarely had time to go out, heck she rarely had time for herself. To this day, whenever she was alone, she would feel that helplessness and emptiness. Chayoung hated that. If her mother was here, would she be proud of her? Chayoung thought to herself.
"Hong Chayoung! What are you doing just standing there! Come on, we have briefing in five minutes!" Seo Mi Ri suddenly came up behind her and snatched her arm, waking her up from her made up dramatic entrance to the big hospital.
"Ya! Slow down!" Cha Young yelled at her best friend. Despite the rooted sadness within her, Chayoung has always tried to be cheerful, especially when she met Seo Miri.
Miri was the only daughter of the famous tycoon in Korea, but she has no interest whatsoever in the family business. Instead, she pursued medicine. Her humble and weird personality instantly clicked with Chayoung when they first met at med school. They became best friend eversince. It's been a strong 9 years friendship between the two women.
"You know, my father sets me up with another chairman's son. Again," Miri said as she changed into her surgery uniform, so did Chayoung. "Which one this time?" Chayoung asked, knowing perfectly well that Miri's weekends are full of blind dates eversince her residency's over.
"Oh that famous furniture company? Dakabo? I think that's it," Miri said.
"Wah, that's a good one. What do you think of him?"
Mi Ri slammed her locker doors and gave her best friend death glare. Chayoung just looked at her friends innocently while following her tiny friend from behind. "They are all the same, Chayoung. They're just after my father," Mirisighed.
Both women walked out of the locker room toward the the lift. They had staff meeting on the 5th floor. She smiled faintly her best friend. It really is hard for Miri to find someone who's not after her wealth.
"Anyways, why do you think the Director wants us this early in the morning?" Chayoung asked, changing the subject.
Seo Miri's eyes suddenly sparkled. "You know, they said they have a new Head of Cardiothoracic Surgeon. The chatter from the nurse station said he's a foreigner!" Miri said.
Of course, Miri would be excited for that, she's in Cardiology afterall. Chayoung just nodded, it has nothing to do with her since she's in Neurology. She just wanted to get this ungodly hour meeting over with and get back to her patients.
