That night was very tiring for Vincenzo. It was an eventful night for him, as he had to feel immense sadness for saying good bye to his best friend but also he was happy that he was reunited with the woman he had fallen in love without him realizing it.
"Can you drive? You just got back here after a long flight, I can take over," Chayoung said as she looked at Vincenzo worriedly. They were currently driving to Seoul and it was almost 1 am.
"You're the one who should get some sleep. You just did a long surgery today," Vincenzo glanced at the woman who sat on the passenger seat. Chayoung didn't answer him. She was indeed tired and she couldn't even get a wink of sleep on the way to Sokcho as she was very nervous to meet Vincenzo.
At the mention of the surgery, Chayoung also realized that not once since they met Vincenzo asked about his father. Maybe he already knew that the surgery went well, but still, he should've asked. Right then, Chayoung understood that Vincenzo's relationship with his father was probably not that good. She had never seen them interacted directly at the hospital as well.
"Get some sleep," Vincenzo encouraged her again, but Chayoung shook her head stubbornly. Vincenzo let out a sigh and pulled over his Ferrari to the side of the road. "Let's get some sleep, I'll wake you in an hour," Vincenzo suggested. Chayoung looked at him and she finally gave up. "Okay," she mumbled.
Vincenzo unbuckled his seatbelt and came closer to Chayoung. Chayoung unknowingly held her breath as Vincenzo was very close to her to reach for the her seat handle. "There you go," Vincenzo said as he finally adjusted Chayoung's chair to make her comfortable.
"You should sleep too," Chayoung said. Vincenzo smiled softly at her, his face was just an inch from her and nodded in reply before he was back to his seat again.
Chayoung made herself comfortable and just as she closed her eyes, it only took her a minute before she fell asleep. Vincenzo laughed a little at the sight. You're so stubborn, look at how tired you are.
Vincenzo spent a couple of minutes just staring at Chayoung's sleeping face. She looked so beautiful to Vincenzo. He reached to put a small strand of her hair behind her ear and caressed her cheek with his index finger softly.
"Do I really deserve you?" Vincenzo whispered as he continued to watch Chayoung closely. He sighed and rest his head at the steering wheel.
He was feeling everything all at once, but he didn't know how to handle the overwhelming emotion he felt that night. Everything he had done in Italy clearly made him as worse as his father and he truly hate his father for turning him this way. He had an option to resolve things with the Morettis, but he resorted to violence at last.
The fact that Jihong had left also made everything worse for Vincenzo, that he had to lose one of the most important people in his life. Moreover, Jihong telling Vincenzo to take care of Chayoung only made he felt like he shouldn't deserve her. In a perfect world, a person as good as Park Jihong should end up with a woman like Hong Chayoung and a scumbag like him should just be miserable for the rest of his life.
"Shit," Vincenzo whispered as he felt his tears were forming again.
He harshly wiped them with the back of his hand and took a deep breath to control himself. Vincenzo looked at Chayoung again and he was relieved to find Chayoung was already fast asleep. He stared at the empty highway ahead of him for a while, sorting out his thoughts, before he continued to drive to Seoul.
