Chapter 9
Kari opened her eyes. She saw darkness surrounding her. She sat up. 'This room has no windows at all. No wonder its dark.'
She squinted and saw (kinda) that the other beds were empty. 'Seems like I'm the last one awake... I wonder how long it's been?' She got out of bed, feeling the cold tiles on the floor. She rubbed her eyes and patted down her long hair. 'Time for a haircut.' She braided her hair.
She walked out of the sleeping room and heard noises coming from another room. Curious, she went over to it. She opened the door and saw that the room inside was filled with people. Some she recognized, like Milo, Sam and Billy, while the rest was random other people. They all stopped when they saw her.
She blinked then turned away to leave.
"Wait! Kari!" She heard a voice say. She knew this voice. 'It could only belong to...!' She turned around.
"Anya?!" Kari was very surprised to see her old classmate. They hadn't spoken in a long time. 'One year and a long time.' She corrected.
Anya Jackson was wearing her blue framed glasses, but her bangs covered her big teary brown eyes. Her hair was in one braid going down her back tied with a cream colored bow which complimented her dark brown skin. She had on a white t-shirt and blue jeans. She looked happy to see Kari.
They'd met in middle school, but Anya was a bit of a bitch. 'A lot of one, actually,' she thought. They weren't friends because of that.
By the end of middle school, she went from most popular, to most hated. She was a very smart girl, but hid that fact so she could be popular. When the truth came out, instead of accepting it, everyone brandished her a liar and started to hate her. She started to be bullied when high school started, but
Kari helped her by scaring the bullies away.'She used to be a bully herself, but... That's because she was pressured to be something she was not. All she wanted was for everyone to like her.' Kari thought that if she had just been herself from the beginning, she would have found very good friends who would have liked her.
"Kari! I'm so glad!" Anya basically jumped onto Kari and gave her a hug. Kari hugged her back. She had kind of missed seeing Anya around. 'She has the capability to be a nice girl... I wonder if Zing brought her here?'
"Yeah, I'm okay." Anya let her go and smiled.
"We've been so worried about you." She said wiping her eyes. Kari made a tissue appear in her hand and gave it to her. Anya took it, curious. "Wizard?" Kari shrugged. "You just assumed that I'd be okay with that?"
"I wouldn't really care if you weren't. Besides, your sitting in a room full of smelly dogs, an Elf, a blood sucker and Billy, so I think you're fine with what I am, regardless."
"Hey! That's not very nice! Especially since ya don't know us!" A short blond guy said sitting next to one of the two large windows the room had.
"No. But whether I know you or not, I'm still going to be like this to you, Shorty."
Another guy sitting on one of the large couches next to Milo, Sam and Billy, with black hair and a large build laughed.
"You are going to fit right in!" The guy stood up and extended a hand to Kari. "My name is Cam! And Shorty over there is Kevin." Kari shook it.
"I swear the next person to call me Shorty will get the shit beaten outta them!" Kevin said. Simultaneously, everyone in the room said, "Shorty." Kevin groaned. Kari laughed along with the rest of the crew. 'Except,' Kari noticed. 'Billy and that guy in the corner wearing black.'
