Chapter 14

The warm fall air breezed into the open window as Kari and Zing headed to Fox Falls.

Why were they going there exactly?

'Because Zing is an idiot who broke his guitar by sitting on it. That's why.' Kari rolled her eyes internally.

"Why did we need to come all the way here? There are music stores in Sacred Heart." Kari said complaining.

"Because, my guitar was custom made by one specific person. This person just so happens to live here now. I can't get this fixed unless he does it." Zing said. He smiled at his girlfriend. "Thanks for coming with me."

"Like I had a choice!" She smiled and rolled her eyes once again. Even though   going was a waste to her, she was happy to be with Zing.

Zing had borrowed his parents sedan and was driving to the city. They had begun driving right after school ended, 3:30. So they would get to Fox Falls at about 5:30 or so.

"Nice to see you driving. You learned while I was away?" Zing nodded.

"Like I said before, a lot has changed in the past year."

"Like you making new friends. A shit load of 'em. Too many if you ask me."

"You're just jealous cause now you don't have me all to yourself anymore." He laughed.

"Well, yeah." She answered honestly. Zing was her's, no question about it. However, those people did seem to be good... She'd get used to them soon. But for now, she'd keep an eye on them. "How did you meet them?" Zing thought for a moment.

"I met Alphonse first. He was the one who brought all of us together." Zing said, his tone serious.

"Can you tell me how?"

Zing was silent for a long time. Kari thought maybe she had hit a nerve and she was about to tell him that he doesn't have to explain when he spoke.

"There was this guy... Alphonse and Tom knew him."

"Tom? Sam and Billy's dad?" Zing nodded.

"This guy, he was their Alpha."

"Tom and Alphonse? Really? They knew each other before? And they were in the same pack?" Kari was surprised. 'That's a strange coincidence.' She frowned.

"Yeah. This guy, his name's... Morris." Zing said the name with a strain in his voice. As if saying that name hurt him. "He wasn't... Quite right in the head."

"How'd you mean?"

"I mean... He would... Recruit people to join his pack... Just so he could kill them."

Kari was disgusted. "Oh my god! He was going to kill Tom and Alphonse too?"

"Yeah... After he killed almost all his pack, he had tried to kill Tom, since he and Alphonse were the last two left. Somehow.... Tom was able to escape, and he and Alphonse left Morris. For a long time... Morris was nowhere to be found... He was inactive. He didn't try to recruit anyone else for years, until-"

"Last year."

"Right. He... He just started turning kids into Wolves out of nowhere... Most of the time though, he'd just kill them, but a few times... He succeeded."

Kari considered what he meant by that. She swallowed and spoke quietly. "He... He was the one to turn you..."

Zing nodded solemnly. "Not only me, but he turned Kev and Cam too. That's... That's how we met. As well as a few other kids that are with Tom now. We were all part of this guy's pack... We all survived... The change and... And him... Somehow." Zing kept driving as silence passed over them. After a few minutes, Kari talked.
