Chapter 29

"Are you sure that this is the thing to do right now? I mean, I'm down for a little spy time occasionally but this-"

Leon shushed his girlfriend. Although she was whispering and there was no way of Ryuu hearing them from across the extensive library, Leon still felt that they should keep to the shadows and lay low. She was riffling through a small book when she scoffed.

"Leo." Leon turned to Anya. She handed him the book that entitled, 'The Hunter's Rise To Power And Glory: A Heinz Billion Biography.' The cover was of a really old picture of the American flag and the Union Jack crossed over each other.

"What in all things holy is this?" Leon flipped the book over. It read:

'This is the story of Heinz Billion, the founder of The Hunters! This bibliography details his life from his British birth to his incredible rise to power in America. Advancement Requirement-- Needed for Stage two.'

"What is stage two?" Leon asked Anya. Since she was so highly ranked, she should know the answer.

"To be honest, I'm not sure. But I flipped through the book and from what I skimmed, I think that the Trainee level had many stages. You had to pass various knowledge tests in order to move up in rank. That isn't how it works now though."

"How does it work now?"

"You just have to be good in combat. Then you can move up the ranks quickly like I apparently did. Not that I can recall." Anya sighed taking the book and setting it down on the floor.

Leon bit his lip. He was really glad that she didn't remember what the Dark Magic made her body do. "Don't worry about the past, focus on whats ahead."

Anya nodded and they kept watching Ryuu.

After a half an hour, Anya questioned why they were even watching him.

"We want to get a feel for what he does around here." Anya groaned.

"Clearly he does nothing. We've been following him for days!"

"But why is he doing nothing?"

"Because he's a lazy bootch."

Leon shook his head. "Elementary, my dear Watson."

"Wow you did not just say that!" She laughed quietly. "I bet you waited your whole life to say that."

"I did." Leon laughed too.

"Okay. Fine, Mr. Holmes. Tell me what's so elementary that I don't understand?"

"Anya. I must ask that you call me that at a later date."

Anya laughed. "Leo, you get turned on by the strangest things! I definitely will use that on you sometime later."

"We should be more focused."

"Tell that to yourself boo."

Leon smiled. "Elementary: If someone important is doing nothing, there must be a good reason for it." Leon frowned. "If what you heard was right, then Ryuu is a Captain. That is the position right above Lieutenant and right under-"

"The Master." Anya said, understanding.

"Right. I think that he might be waiting for something."

"Or someone!" Anya said. "Shit! I heard a rumor from Esmerelda that the Master would come for a visit sometime soon. Maybe that's what he's waiting for!"

Leon nodded. "That's definitely a possibility." He spotted Ryuu getting up to leave. He grabbed his briefcase and left. "Okay, I'll stay on Ryuu's trail while you go and find out more about this potential visit. Ask anyone who might know."
