Chapter 19
Kari walked to the room where Roger's son was cooped up with bags of takeout.
She wanted to help him for some reason.
She thought about that feeling she got when she looked at him.
It was the same feeling she gets with Sam and Billy. It wasn't a romantic feeling, just a sort of pull, for lack of a better word. She felt connected to these guys somehow. 'Maybe because we're allies now?'
She frowned. 'What's the connection between these boys? Why do I get such a feeling when I see them?'
She opened the door to the room and saw the boy sitting with Billy and Sam.
'Speak of the devil.' She thought.
"Kari! I hope you brought food!" Billy said. Kari held up the bags of takeout. "Yes, you are a lifesaver!" Billy eagerly grabbed the bags as Kari sat down near him. Kari grabbed a box from one of the bags.
"It's a bento box. I hope you like sushi." She said as she passed the box to Roger's son. He took it hesitantly.
"Thank you." He said quietly.
"So, are you going to tell me your name or what?" Kari said.
The boy looked up at her. His eyes curious.
"I, uh, I'm Leon Hemsworth..." He said.
"Leon, huh? Nice name!" Billy said. "I'm Billy! And this is Sam and Kari!"
"Good to meet you." Sam said. Leon nodded. He had a strange look on his face. Like he wanted to say something, but couldn't.
"You know, you can ask us anything. We won't be offended." Kari said.
Leon nodded. "Are-" He stopped and sighed. "Are you guys Non-Human too?"
"Yeah. We are." Sam answered.
"How long have you known that you were... Different?" Leon asked.
"Whole life." Kari answered.
"A long time." Sam said.
"Basically forever." Billy responded.
"Oh, okay..." Leon said frowning.
"You're not alone you know." Sam said. Leon looked at him.
"Then why do I feel alone?" He said silencing the group.
The sat in the silence for a while. What Leon said reminded Kari of her own loneliness. Even with someone like Zing by her side, she still felt something... Incomplete in her heart. She knew it meant something, the loneliness... She knew if she dug deep enough, she'd be able to find out whats causing her to feel this way. She knew if she did that, her loneliness would go away. And she would have done it too, if it didn't hurt so much.
Most of the time, she ignores her pain.
"I can't imagine what you must be going through..." Billy said quietly.
"Look, U.K.," Kari said Leon raised an eyebrow at what she called him. "I know what you went through was bad. Hell, it was straight up terrible. But look at it this way... Someone, somewhere out there is going through something worse. And it's all because of these Hunters. We have to stop them."
"How can we do that?" Billy said. "They have Dark Magic on their side! How will we contend with that?"
"We will find a way." Kari said.
"You're very confident." Leon said.
"Someone has to be." Was all Kari said. They ate their lunch in silence.

"What is this?"
"It seems to be one of our Rookies sir. The one we had presumed dead a few weeks ago."
"What is he saying? He's mumbling something."
"It would seem he is saying... 'The NH will not go down so easily. Watch your back Hunters, lest this becomes a war in which you shall lose.'"
"Is that a threat? Hah! We'll see about that!"
"Sir? What do we do about the Rookie?"
"Find out who gave him that message."
"Sir, we have been trying to do that. All he can say is the message."
"Really? Well then, dispose of him like we do to all our useless junk. We will find out who sent us that message on our own time. Until then, I will need to up my ante."
"Yes sir, Master."
