Chapter 30
Kari walked into the sitting room at HQ just like when she first met everyone. She was happy to see Milo looking better after all these months. He was standing at the desk near the window on a tablet.
Everyone else was also starting to go back to their normal selves. There was, of course, the black cloud of sadness that still loomed over them since Cam died. But they were getting better.
Zing was also effected deeply by Cam's death. Kari didn't know the reason, but Cam was special to Zing. Kari tried to comfort him as best as she could. Zing excused Kari for her not being the best comforter. He told her he appreciated her effort. Kari was happy to help him, even if its just a bit.
She and everyone else had been busy the last few months. They had been trying to save NH's from being arrested. It was mostly a success.
Of course there was the occasional person whom they were too late to save. They didn't know where they were taken, so they couldn't help the person once they are in the hands of the Hunters.
Kari hated that. She wished that there was some way of helping the people captured.
She sighed. 'There is also the problem of finding a safe place for all the rescued people.' She thought. They had wanted to take everyone to Eladias, but all the different countries there refused to take the Earthlings.
Turns out, NH's were just as racist towards humans.
The only country that wasn't apposed to taking the people was the kingdom where she grew up. Avolin.
The princess there was a wonderful person in Kari's opinion. 'And shes hella cute.' She thought smiling.
Princess Minè (pronounced like Renee) was a year younger than Kari, but boy, she was the wisest person Kari knew. They had met many years back when Kari was part of the Marines.
Princess Minè insisted on taking the rescued people, and she even called the other countries out on being racist.
She had compared one of the countries leaders who refused to help with a 'pile of festering droppings'. Kari literally laughed out loud when she said that. Princess Minè had called a world leader a hot pile of shit.
'It's nice to see that even though she is in a high position, Princess Minè still cares for the people.'
Kari sat down on the couch next to Kevin. She pulled her now shoulder length hair back into a pony.
"Yo K," Kev said to her. She smiled at his absurd nickname. "Nice to see Milo feeling better."
"Yeah. But I wonder why we were called here?"
A few minutes later everyone was gathered. Zing came to sit down on the armrest of the couch she was sitting on. He kissed the top of her head.
"Okay guys. I have something important to share, but before I do, where's Billy?" Milo said.
Kari, along with everyone else, looked at the floor.
"Guys? Why did you all look away at the same time?" No response. "If someone doesn't say anything, then I'll have to probe into someone's mind, and it won't be painless."
"I'm here." Everyone looked at Billy standing at the door. Kari thought that he looked like a zombie. He had bags under his eyes, his skin was pale and he looked helpless. 'At least he's speaking again.' Kari thought sighing.
"Billy." Sam went up to his brother. Billy pretty much shut out Sam, along with everyone else, for the past few months. He, unlike Milo, was constantly walking around HQ.
