Chapter 50

"The Chosen One?" Kari ruminated over these words. She'd heard them before, when she was young. But she had thought them a myth. "What about them?"

"Looks like you've at least heard of them." The stranger said in a light tone. "But I guess you haven't found them yet." He had a cool smile on his face, and what appeared to be a look of relief in his eyes.

"What about them?" She repeated.

"Ah! I didn't mean to ignore your question!" He said rubbing his head. The stranger's tone then became serious. His smile disappeared from his face. "The Chosen One... I am here to find them."

"You are?" Kari narrowed her eyes. Her curiosity peaking. "Where did you come from?"

The stranger's smile returned, but it was only a whisper of his previous one. "I am here to find the Chosen One, and their Sentries. I must."

"Sentries?" Kari noticed that he ignored her question. But, she had never heard of the Sentries of the Chosen One, so she was curious. Although, it wasn't surprising to her that she'd never heard of them, she never did pay the legend full attention when it was told to her.

The stranger shrugged. "I guess you can't help me then." He looked around himself, studying the garden. "Is this a garden of Serenity Castle?" He mumbled.

"It's the East Gardens, specifically."

"I see." He nodded.

"Are you going to tell me who you are?" Kari asked, not really expecting an answer. 'This guy is weird... But I don't feel any hostility towards him...'

"Oh! Right! I... I-um..." He frowned deeply. "I'm..."

"You don't want to tell me."

He looked at her with sad eyes. "I want to tell you-"

"It's fine if you don't want to."

"No. If it's you, I want to tell you." Kari raised a brow at that. "But..." He looked at his hands. "How can I tell you who I am if... I no longer know myself?"

Kari's eyes widened. 'This guy...' She frowned. She felt bad for him and for some odd reason she wanted to cheer him up. "So..." She had a thought. "Make up a name."

"Huh?"

"Make up a name. Eventually, I will want to know who you really are, but for now... Make one up." Kari said, following her train of thought. "I'm betting you don't know anyone here. So, you have a chance to start over now. You can be anyone. You don't have to think about who you were. Now its about who you could be. So, old man... Who are you?"

"Old man!" The stranger exclaimed. He looked at the long silver hair on his shoulder and laughed. "I guess I am old now..." He frowned in thought.

Kari had to admit, she was a bit envious of the guy. He had a chance to start anew. She'd never get that chance. 'But...' She put her hand on her left eye. 'I can't forget what I've done. I must live with my sins.'

"I- I guess... I need a name..." He mumbled. "I have silver hair now... Oh!" He smiled. "I could be Silver! Or," He smiled wider at Kari. "I got it! I'll be Chrome! Cool name huh?"

Kari rolled her eyes. "You could have any name, but you choose Chrome?" She shook her head and changed the topic. "You are looking for someone... How do you plan on finding them?"

"Good question." He nodded. "I was just going to wing it."

Kari chuckled dryly. "Wing it?"

"With your help of course, Princess-"
