Chapter 22

Kari, Leon and Milo snuck quietly down a long hallway. Kari was impressed with how Leon managed to keep up with them.

"When will they give the signal?? This friggen mask itches. I just want to kick ass and get out so I can take it off." Kari said.

"You complain a lot." Milo said.

"Got a problem, Bloodsucker?" Kari said.

"Yeah. 99 of 'em to be exact." Milo said. Kari laughed. "You should be quieter."

"I know, I know. 'Its imperative' or whatever." Kari rolled her eyes. "Lets just get-"

Kari stopped when they saw the lights flickering.

"If that isn't the signal, nothing is. Let's do this." Milo said.

"Yes!" Kari said. She saw a few guards walk down the hall. "Hey, bitches! Come and get it!"

The guards pulled out their glowing blue tazers and charged at them.

Kari didn't hesitate to fight the guards.

One of them must have called for backup because soon the whole hall was full of Hunters.

"I'm going to go cause a scene elsewhere. Don't have too much fun here." Milo said taking off. "Leon, go the other way, can you find some fire alarms and pull them? That should cause a ruckus!" Leon nodded and left. Kari noticed how quiet he was. She didn't like it.

"I won't have too much fun!" She called back.

After a good minute of fighting, she felt a familiar ripple.

'Where have I felt this before?' She kept fighting the guards and avoided being hit with all their blue weapons.

Kari felt another ripple and then realized what it was.

'That's Billy! He must have stopped Time.' She didn't know why, but she had a terrible feeling. 'I have to go back to the others. But first, I gotta lose these guards.'

Then Kari did something she normally would never do in the middle of a fight.

She ran.

Of course the guards chased her, but she had something they didn't. Magic.

She ran until she hit a dead end. She quickly casted a spell.

"I Cast! Invisibility Spell: Infisial!"

Her whole body turned invisible. The guards looked down the hall but left after a few seconds.

She turned herself back to normal. She felt something to her left that made her shudder.

'I have a feeling I should go towards that.'

She ran until she found Milo. He was in the computer room on his knees holding someone.

He was crying hysterically.

"Milo! What-" She turned and saw Billy.

He was staring at something.

He looked... Empty.

She didn't understand why until she saw what he was staring at. And what Milo was holding.

Cam's dead body.

Suddenly an alarm sounded and the lights flashed red.

"ATTENTION ALL HUNTERS: THERE ARE NH'S ON THE PREMISES. REPEAT, THERE ARE NH'S ON THE PREMISES. KILL UPON SIGHT."

The announcement blared all over the compound.

Kari knew that they didn't have much time. She looked around.

"Where's Anya and Leon?? We have to go!" Kari yelled over the noise.

"I don't know what happened to them." Milo said sobbing.

Kari clenched her fist. They didn't have time to look for them. They'd have to come back.

Kari bit her lip. She was taught, no soldier left behind. But here she was, about to leave not only one, but two.

"Hold it right there!" She heard voices coming down the hall. She closed the door behind her tight.

'We have no choice!' Kari Transported them all out of there.

Including her now dead friend.
