The Search

Chapter 40

Year: 2040

"Why is this taking so long?!" Zing said loudly.

"Because we can't find what we need. Once we do-"

"It's been 9 weeks! Why can't anyone help us?"

"They're afraid. They're afraid of what might happen if they help us." Leon said to a clearly distressed Zing.

They were walking all over Avolin trying to get someone to help them. Zing clung to his Zulistone bracelet tightly. Princess Minè had suggested that they should try to contact Kari through her Varionstone. If they could successfully establish a more powerful link between the stones, then they could possibly transport Kari out of wherever she was.

There were a few problems with that plan. Actually, there was only one problem. It was finding a person to use the power to find Kari, a Dowser. If they aren't able to find one, they won't be able to find her.

"What are they so afraid of? It's not like we aren't there to protect them!"

"Yes, but they still live in fear of the Hunters. And can you blame them? If it weren't for the Hunters, they'd be at home, on Earth, with their families."

"Don't they know that we'll stop the Hunters?"

"Zing..." Leon sighed. "We might be the only one's fighting against the Hunter's, just our little group against a big organization. The people don't like those odds." Zing shook his head. They walked in silence for a bit.

"Why do we even need a Dowser anyway? You could do it, or Billy, or better yet Roger! Why do we need a specialist?" Zing grumbled. Leon sighed yet again.

"We need someone who can manipulate Crystal Magic. A Dowser does just that. Anyway, I don't think me or Billy would be able to do anything seeing as we are terrible at Magic."

"And Roger? He's a powerful Wizard. In fact, he's one of the most powerful Wizards! He could do it!"

"Except he can't manipulate that kind of Magic. He's not a Dowser."

Zing groaned. "This is complete bullshit." He clenched his fists and stopped walking. "I can't stand not knowing where Kari is! Who knows what she's going through? I told her I wouldn't let her go and she's gone, just like that!" His breathing became labored as his anger increased. "After everything that's happened to us..." He bared his canines and brought out his claws. "That bastard...! He'll pay for taking her from me!"

"Zing! I get it, I really do, but you need to calm down!" Leon said frantic. Zing put his hands to his face, calming himself down. "Please... You mustn't anger yourself. We'll find her, I swear it. But not if you lose control again, okay? We'll find her..." Zing nodded. He focused on steadying his breaths. How messed up could this get? How long would he be separated from her?

"I'm sorry..."

"Don't apologize. Let's just find that damned Dowser."

They walked some more, but after a few hours of asking and getting nowhere, they went back to the castle.

In one of the many living rooms, the group was gathered with an old blue man in the center. Leon guessed him to be an ogre based on what he read recently about NH's.

"What's going on?" Leon asked as he and Zing entered the room.

"Ah, hello son." Roger said to Leon, prompting Leon to roll his eyes. "I have found your Dowser!"

"Finally!" Zing said as he went to the blue man. He was wrinkly and covered in warts, but he had a serene air about him Leon liked. "Oy, old man. You're a Dowser?"

The old blue man sighed.

"His name is Iggy. Call him Iggy. Please. He hates being addressed as 'old man'. Trust me." Roger said rubbing his arm. 'He must be an aggressive little guy. Better watch out Zing.' Leon thought.

"Oh okay, Iggy, I need you to Dowse or whatever to this Zulistone." Zing handed his bracelet to Iggy.

"There is a Varionstone attached to this?" Iggy said observing the stone. Zing nodded.

"Kari, the one we want you to find, has it."

"Hmm..." Iggy said.

"Well, go ahead! Dowse it!"

"I don't like your impatience boy."

"You'd be impatient too if the one you love was trapped to an unknown fate!"

"You're too dramatic." Iggy said.

"I'm being realistic."

Iggy rolled his eyes. "Kids these days, amirite?" Roger laughed but quickly stopped after Leon gave him an angry look. "I see that I can make a connection to the Varionstone. Would you like me to do it now?"

"YES." They all said together.

"I assumed so." Iggy put his hands together and started to chant. The Zulistone started to glow brightly.

"I Cast The Spell Of Crystal Location: Dowsing!"

Leon covered his eyes to the crystal's brightness, shielded his face from the abrupt blast of wind, and opened his ears to the sudden calling out of a voice.

"-stone with you! You need it to-"

There she was.
