Annabeth
The leader's expression remained hidden behind his mask.
Then Zeus moved.
Before anyone could react, lightning erupted from his hand and struck the masked leader directly.
The entire throne room shook.
I instinctively covered my ears.
But when the light faded...
The leader was still standing.
He hadn't even moved.
Instead, the lightning seemed to disappear into his body.
He had absorbed it.
My mouth fell open.
Zeus stared at him in disbelief.
Then his expression turned furious.
The leader slowly lifted his head.
"Zeus..."
He took a step forward.
"Zeus..."
Another step.
"Zeus... Zeus... Zeus..."
He stopped directly in front of the angry King of the Gods.
"Did you really think that lightning would scare me?"
His voice was almost amused.
"Nothing in the entire damn universe scares me."
He tilted his head.
"That was a pathetic move on your part."
Zeus raised his weapon again.
The leader smiled.
"Now..."
He lifted one hand.
"Let me show you what my powers can actually do."
The lightning he had absorbed suddenly erupted from his palm.
But this time...
It was enormous.
It was brighter.
More violent.
More powerful than anything I had ever seen Zeus create.
The entire throne room shook as the bolt struck Zeus.
"Father!" Athena shouted.
I screamed.
Zeus was thrown backward.
His body slammed against the floor.
The leader didn't stop.
Lightning continued to pour from his hand.
Zeus struggled to rise.
He couldn't.
The King of the Gods...
Was being forced to his knees.
His own power was being turned against him.
I stared in horror.
Around me, the gods looked equally shocked.
The leader's warriors, however, didn't even flinch.
They simply watched.
As if this was completely normal.
Zeus tried to contain his power.
