"I don't. You don't deserve it."
She left my room. I stood where I was frozen. Her words hurt more than a knife. Her words kept repeating in my head.
"I don't. You don't deserve it."
"I don't. You don't deserve it."
I was not even worthy of her hatred. I had no place in her life. She erased all of our memories as if they never existed. As she said she wants us to be strangers.
How can you be a stranger with someone who has seen your soul. All these years I waited. I waited years and years for her. And when I thought I finally found her, she was not who I'd remembered.
The blank expressions, the cold eyes, her lost gaze and the agony in her words. These were never a part of her existence. She was a girl filled with so much life and love. Carefree and joyous. She shined so bright that wherever she went the room brightened. She attracted attention of every person in the room. A kind heart which broke for every little bad thing she sees.
This is how she made her way into my heart and never left, my heart made her my home.
And now that home is lost.I put my head in my hands. I felt numb all over my body. The physical pain I suffered is nothing compared to what I am going through emotionally.
I did not know how long I was still in my position the sound of the opening door pulled me back in present. I didn't even bother to look to know who it was.
It was her and behind her was a man. He must be a doctor she talked about.
"This is Dr. Melendez. He will treat you." Were her words directed at me. I nodded.
Without saying much the doctor told me to lie down on my bed. He seems professional and did a good work. Within minutes I was bandaged.
"How did you get hurt so bad?" He asked curiously.
"It was a car crash." I answered.
"It is too bad for a simple car crash. I have experience with such injuries Mr. Park, and a simple car crash would never result in such damage."Now what should I tell him for that. He was still looking at me, willing me to satisfy his curiosity. But I was not in the mood to do so. I shrugged.
"Did you put yourself in the way while crash on purpose?" He inquired never leaving my eyes.
I looked away and that was the answer. A tiny smile appeared on his face. He was mostly in his forties and had a pleasing personality. I would have loved to talk to him more had I not been in bad mood.
"Now I wonder why would you do that?" He mumbled more to himself but I heard the intention behind it.
"I had something to protect." I confessed still not looking at him. He chuckled.
"I thought it was Vanessa's job to protect you, I didn't realise when you switched roles."
He looked at me. I could see interest in his blue eyes. They were indeed calm but I would be a fool to miss the sharpness in them.
"Tell me more about your self."
What?!
"Uncle Charles!!" Cried Vanessa.
"What?" He also cried back.
"I just want to know more about the person who saved my niece. How am I going to thank him if I don't know such basics." He continued.I see he is her uncle.
I adjusted myself to sit more properly. I don't want to leave a bad impression.
"You don't need to thank me Dr. Melendez. It was what I should do." I told him.
He turned his head to me and smiled.
"Still it was a risky thing to do. Had there been a little more force you could have broken your shoulder.""Well I didn't so it's alright."
"That's a relief but you should be careful just in case it happens again."
He advised me.
I had the answer ready in my heart."I will do it again." I admitted looking him straight in the eyes. Showing him the determination I had to protect her. He too held my gaze for few seconds before laughing loudly.
"I like this guy. You are a good man Mr. Park. We should meet again..."
He patted my shoulder carefully."Uncle you have another appointment. Let me drop you. " Vanessa informed him picking up his suitcase urging him to leave.
"You are so impatient Vanessa, I wonder how does A'Zhan bear with you." He shook his head standing up. But my mind was on the name he pronounced.
Who is A'Zhan?
He turned to me one last time and said.
"You need complete rest your left side is badly injured and your ribs are also hurt. I have given you painkillers to deal with the pain but avoid heavy activities. I'll visit again to check. Till then take care."I nodded and thanked him. He left with Vanessa.
The painkillers hit me fast and I fell asleep. It was a dreamless night. Suddenly I felt thirsty. I rolled in my bed trying to get through the night without having to go and fetch water from kitchen but mother nature always has its own plans.
When it felt like I really need to drink water I got up from bed and walked in the direction of fridge. It was 2 in the morning. There were few murmurs that I can hear on my way. I stopped in my tracks.
"No A'Zhan we are not."
"Maybe because of guilt I don't know."
"I know that. Do you really think I will do it after what I have been through?"
"Good then relax. Don't worry about me. Just focus on your work."
"Ofcourse."
"Love you too. Bye."
Disconnecting her phone she turned around and came face to face with me. She was not surprised to see me. She just put her cell in her pocket and straightened.
"What are you doing here?" She demanded.
"Water." I replied. She nodded and grabbed a bottle from the fridge and offered it to me. I accepted it neutrally.
When I gulped down enough to quench my thirst I asked her.
"You think I saved you because I felt guilty?" I don't know how I sounded but it must have came out as a surprise since she widened her eyes. She knew I was eavesdropping on her but the fact that I knew what she was talking about may have been a shock to her.
She didn't answer me for a while but when she opened her mouth I interfered.
"You know what? Don't answer that." I turned around and walked back to my room. I had enough of heart break today and I don't think I can take anymore. I knew what her answer is gonna be and I won't be able to stand it, the only good thing, the only thing I was able to do for her, the only thing I was proud of to be called guilt.
I woke up to loud arguments next morning. The voices were coming from the main hall. I frowned. Who would start shouting so early in the morning. But then I recognised the voice belonging to a male. My eyes widened.
What is he doing here?
And why is he so mad?Author's Note
