Joining the dots

"Agent Cross."

I called her. Within a minute she was there on my door looking at me expectantly.

"I want to go out." I announced. She pressed her lips together.

"I don't recommend that. You haven't healed yet."

I knew this was coming and I was ready for it.

"Not asking for your permission."

I stood up putting on mask and my cap. She stared at me in annoyance. I turned my back to her pretending to be busy looking for something while she decides to oblige.

I heard a loud sigh. My lips curled up in a smile.

"Team A on alert, Matthew get the car." She commanded her subordinates via microphone.

I smiled inwardly though before turning I managed to cover it up.

"Where do you wanna go?" She asked me sounding very annoyed. I turned to face her.

"Let's begin with city aquarium."

Her face changed from confusion to recognition in seconds.

"City Aquarium. Make a perimeter." She spoke in her mic.

I was putting on my shoes when she finished with her commands and stood up alert waiting for me.

"Let's go."

"Not like this." I waved my hand from her head to toe. She looked down at herself and an uneasy look took over her face. She bit her lip as her hands went behind her back. Her head down and a self-conscious face stared back at me.

Damn!

I walked towards her and lifted her chin up with my finger. I looked straight in her deep eyes holding her gaze.

"Annie if you go out like this you will attract too much attention. You don't want to appear on hot search of the week do you?"

I explained myself. The uniform she has on now will turn every head on the way not to mention the fact that she looks too hot in it. People will recognise me and rumours of us dating will spread all over the world.

She nodded in understanding. I kept holding her and she too didn't try to move. Her eyes were locked with mine. My hands moved down to her wrists, I held them gingerly. I leaned down in her neck to inhale her sweet scent. Eyes closed I took another sniff. My mouth watered. Damn I missed her. Opening my eyes I kissed her neck lightly. A blush ran up from her neck to her cheeks.

"Ah..!"

Her fingers tightened around my hands. I rubbed my thumb over the back of her hands in comforting gesture. Out of sudden she pulled her hands from mine and putting both of her hands on my chest she pushed me away from her forcefully. I was not expecting it plus she pressed on my injury so I got pushed back two steps. But what hurt me was not the injury. It was the look on her face.

Her eyes were wide with disbelief. The face which was a hot shade of pink is now pale. She kept staring at me for a while before she managed to get a hold of her breaths and composing herself she stood like a guard again. The mask of blank expression back on her face.

"Annie why..."

"I'll go change." She cut me off. She was about to leave when I caught her wrist and pulled her back to me. So that her back is against my chest.

I want to ask her what is she doing. What is the meaning of all this. I can see that she liked it too. She too wanted it then why break away? As if we have done something bad and sinful?

A look on her face and I changed my mind. She was in panic but behind that panic deep down I could see the fear in them. She looked so vulnerable and weak that it made my heart ache. The words that formed on my lips never came out.

Coming close to her ear I whispered.
"Wear something red."
Defiance is innate to her.
"I don't have anything red." She whispered back. Smiling I let her go. She was caught off-guard. Maybe it was because of the shock that she did not move from her place when I retrieved a red sundress from my closet.

Now we are on the way to aquarium. The atmosphere in car is silent.
"Do we really need him to drop us? I can drive well by myself." I told her not really liking it.

"We need to keep you away from any possible danger."

"What could possibly go wrong if I drive?" I inquired sounding very much like a child who has been denied candy.

"Someone could crash into the car and you could die." Came another response.

"It didn't cause much damage last time." I tried to take my chance of changing her mind. It was the last option I had in mind right now.

"It was because they were not trying. They were just testing waters. Next time they come it will be a war and we are ready for it." She elaborated.

Now that I think about it, what she is saying is true. I also thought that those people were dealt with very easily. Turned out it was just a warm up before the real game.

A thought came to me.

"How many people are following us right now?" I asked her all curious. She faced me.
"Do you really wanna know?"

I nodded my head.

"From the start there were 40 people following us."
My eyes widened.

That many!!!

"We got rid of 10 of them before crossing the bridge, six were dealt with in the last alley and as for remaining...." She flipped the tablet towards me. It had the map of the city. There were red and blue dots moving along the lines which I assume is the road we are taking. The red ones were scattered and blue ones were closing in on them. It was like a game of hide and seek.

"The red ones are the bad guys." I stated rather than asking. She nodded in agreement.

We both looked down to observe the tab even more.
"See the red one here." She pointed with her finger on one of the dots. There appeared a small photo of a man with a name written below it. Along with it I can also see the coordinates and name of his location and surroundings.

I nodded.
"He will be gone in ten seconds from now." She spoke and we waited.

Like she said the red dot disappeared and the photo of that man now had a red cross on it.

A satisfactory smile appeared on her lips. It morphed her features into something more. Her smile had evil in it. The fire in her eyes screamed danger.

"Is he dead?" I asked not knowing what I was hoping to hear.

"Yes he is." She told me like I was a three years old and she is explaining that 2+2 is four.

When we reached our destination all the Reds were gone. I was amazed at how good they were at their job. This gave me relief to know that we are in right hands.

"We are here." Announced she.
