Ugly Fish

The City aquarium stood tall with all its beauty. Not many things changed about it since last time I visited. Vanessa discussed something with Matthew and got off the car.

She is wearing the same red sundress I gave her. It was not an easy task to make her wear it but I have a trick or two under my sleeve to make it work.

The red of her dress compliments her fair skin. It brings out the color in her eyes. The dress reaches her knees. I was careful not to expose much and besides she is gonna need some space to conceal her weapons. Still she looks ethereal in it. I couldn't help but stare.

Noticing my gaze she lifted her brows in question.
"I have always loved seeing you in red." I spoke my mind. She pressed her lips together and walked towards the gate. I followed after her.

"Welcome back Chanyeol ssi." The girl on counter greeted me.
"Thank you Monica." I replied giving her the tickets.
"You friends with her?" Vanessa asked scanning her and I wish it was out of jealousy but no. It was because she needed to decide whether to get rid of her or not.

"More like a benefactor." I elaborated smiling at her.
"True. He visits here alot which resulted in us having more customers. He saved this aquarium and we are really very thankful for his kindness."
Monica explained handing me my tickets back.
"That's kind of him." Chimed in Vanessa.
We bid bye to Monica and entered the main aquarium.

"Is that why you wanted to come here? To promote it?" She asked looking at me.
"That's the half of it." I replied stopping in front of a section. It is a beautiful site. All kinds of fish in vibrant colours moving here and there is  breathtakingly beautiful.

I am also aware that she is waiting for the other half of the reason I have to visit here. I put my hands in my pockets and tilted my head up looking at the pair of blue and golden fish above swimming freely.

"I come here to relax. I remember someone once told me that when life is in chaos find peace in the silence of aquarium."

Upon remembering the words she bit her lower lip. She walked a little further and put her hand on the cold glass as if to touch the small fish swimming alone.

"Don't you agree?" I asked her trying to know what she is thinking. She looked at me from over her shoulder and then turned back to look at the same lone fish struggling to get a piece of food but everytime it tried other fish would attack it and it will swim away. It tried to get it many times but failed.

"What are you looking at?" I asked her.
"See this fish here, no matter how hard it try other fish won't accept her because it is different. It is ugly and small. This is killing it little by little. It has no one to stand by it."

"Maybe it should look for the one who will." I suggested.

"It's just a wishful thinking. Can you guess why it always goes to the pool of same fish despite being rejected and hurt again and again?"

"Because it thinks it belongs with them." I answered.

"Correct but it's not true. All it will ever mean to those big fish is just a bait nothing more. Some will even feed on it." The said fish was now chased out of the pool but it again swam back to the pool only to be chased out again.

"But it keeps trying. It never gives up."

She laughed in mockery.

"Trying for what? It's time it should come to its senses. No ones gonna come to save it. No one cares. That's why it should learn to stand on its own. Give up on the attachments it has with other fish." Her words were very sad. I felt myself at the loss of words.
