Annie turned to me and with her finger pointed me to wait for her. I didn't react. They both walked through the door opening it whole walking ahead. I followed.
She looked back at me over her shoulder giving me an exasperated look. I shrugged my shoulder.
Now that I am at the crime scene I took in everything I can see.
The door opened into an empty space surrounded by almost eight feet high walls.
The ground had patches of blood on number of places. If I touch it I am sure it will be wet. The walls and pillars also had blood on them. My feet slipped on something, I looked down and it turned out I stepped on bullet shells. I noticed same holes in the walls and cars also. It was clear what happened here.
Few of the agents were loitering from here to there doing God knows what.
Curiously I asked Annie tapping her shoulder.
"What are they doing?"
She followed my gaze.
"They are from team D. They clean the crime scene.""You have an entire team for that?"
"Yup." She answered. I looked more closely they were indeed erasing the remains of crime. There were dragging marks on the ground and I didn't have to think alot about it to know what they were."Mr. Park."
Liu Zhan called. I searched for him and found him standing near the far corner of the ground along with Annie. My eyes widened.
There was a man on his knees. Blood oozing from his mouth. He had so many bruises on him that you can hardly recognise his face. Not only his face the way he was groaning I am sure he had his body battered as well.
He looked up at me when I reached them.
"Have you seen him before?" Asked Liu Zhan.
That caught me off guard. Still I tried to remember.
"No." I answered honestly.
That man's eyes never left my face. When our eyes locked his lips curled into an evil smile. With front broken teeth that smile seemed even more vile."You are lucky. Had these people not interfered we would have been acquainted very well."
A chill ran down my back.
Liu Zhan kicked him in the gut. He doubled over yet he roared in laughter.
"Hahahhaha....you think you all can survive? Just wait and see, soon you will be auctioned in the Den...hahahha....I wonder who will make the highest bid...Ahhh...."
Another kick to the gut and he spat blood.
"Auctioned...?" I asked, my voice not more than a whisper.
"Indeed. You are on the top."
Annie pressed the barrel of the gun at his skull. He immediately stopped laughing. All that bravado vanished like smoke.
"You won't kill me, you need me alive!!!" Even a child can tell it was his last attempt to seem brave but it didn't last long.
A bone chilling smile appeared on her face.
" Since you don't know anything you are of no use to us." Liu Zhan finished. That man started to look bewildered. The real fear broke out now.
Crouching down Annie spoke.
"You will die slowly and in pieces I'll make sure of it but if you tell us a story I'll be generous and make it fast and painless. What do you say?"His eyes ran between them both and then me. He swallowed weighing his chances. His eyes snapped to mine.
"You better run Chanyeol, they are coming for you."
Bang!
As soon as he finished Liu Zhan's bullet made a hole in his head. He fell back on the ground with a heavy thud in an awkward angle. I felt my stomach twirl. I slapped my hand on my mouth to stop myself from throwing up. Falling to my knees I retched.
Neither of them even flinched when they killed him. I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Here." She offered me a bottle of water. I took it gratefully. The team D agents increased their pace. Instinctively I turned to see what they are doing but a pair of hands held my face in between them.
"Don't look." She whispered. I nodded. After a while when they finished getting rid of the body she spoke again.
"I am sorry, we should not have done that in front of you."
"It's okay I am good now." It was a lame excuse. She scanned my face.
"You were fine last time."
Last time? Oh The car chase incident. I was fine after that."This is different." I explained.
She bit her lips.
"You are right. We should have let you get used to it."What?!
"You get used to death?!!" I sounded incredulous.
She tilted her head to a side looking at me as if I am the one who has said the ridiculous thing.
"Yes you do." She confirmed steady in her response.
"How?" I can't help asking her that. I need to know why is she so calm in the storm.
"When you have seen enough of it."
She left after saying that back to her dark world leaving me trapped in a prison of doubts, possibilities to think what made her like this.
I don't know when we reached home. I didn't pay much attention to anything. I just did what they told me until I ended up in my bed alone.
I shoved my hands in my hair. Her words still echoing in my head.
'when you have seen enough of it.'
I have had seen my share of deaths and losses in the army. I have accepted death but sometimes I find it hard to stand it. There were only a few soldiers of higher ranks and age who had the same eyes as Annie. The empty eyes which have lost all they held dear. They had no love for their lives hence they didn't fear death.
That emptiness in her made a hollow in my chest. I was still in my personal hell when I heard her call for me.
"Mr. Park?"
"Come in." I sat up on bed.
They both came in closing the door behind them. Liu Zhan is now cleaned and bandaged up. He seems better than before now. But the way they walked seriously together in my room made me feel uneasy."What's wrong?" I asked.
They both sat in front of me on the couch."Did you tell anyone about where you are going today?" Annie asked.
I was not expecting that.
"No I didn't." I replied.
"Don't rush. Think carefully again." He spoke looking at me intently.
I recalled all the things I did after getting the schedule one by one."I am sure I haven't told anyone. Not even my team-mates knew."
"Are you sure? It's not necessary that you specifically told anyone. You may have left your schedule in open or asked for another ride or ordered food in the same area. Anything that will give an idea about your plans."
Annie proded looking desperate.
"I got the schedule just a day before the shoot. I barely managed to go through the whole script on time then how can I make time to tell someone about it."
I answered honestly. I am totally sure that I haven't told anyone.
Hearing me they both exchanged looks.
I know that look.Something is going on. Without waiting for them to explain I asked.
"Will you tell me why are you asking me that."
Annie uttered in anger.
"We think we have a mole."
