The next morning when she woke, Sonic was sitting next to her. He did not look happy. She knew why. The hunting team must have already gone out and returned with nothing. Since she'd been here, everything was going wrong for their pack. Not without fault.
"Take a walk with me." Sonic said. Together they stood and started walking along the path through the den area. Shadow wondered what it was Sonic could want, instead of worrying about the missing woodland creatures, he'd rather take a walk with her.
"I know you had something to do with the missing animals, what did you do?" He asked. Of course he would ask, Shadow rolled her eyes. "If your pack didn't hunt them in huge numbers, I wouldnt of evacuated them. Have you been so blind as to what your pack's huge number was doing to this land? I mean the poor woodland creatures couldn't even reproduce this season because of a lack of numbers!" Shadow responded, keeping pace with Sonic.
"The land is fine, my father makes sure to do checks and has confirmed everything is fine." He responded. Shadow huffed. "If he was kind, it would be a different answer. This pack maybe had another 5 years of his peace before ruin would happen naturally. I will protect the forests and this land. Someone must learn!" She argued. "If you wanted to teach the pack a lesson you shouldn't have gone about it the way you did!" He argued back, picking up his pace.
"So if I simply told you, would you have listened? I think not. Your pack is the one who took the old wolf's words for granted." She said, picking up her pace. "The old wolf? We simply thought she was crazy. Perhaps we wouldn't have listened to you. But for now you have a choice. You may choose to join the pack or be locked away." Sonic said.
Shadow stopped, shocked. "Locked away! You can't keep me here. Why would I want to choose your pack?" She asked. "Yes, locked away. And because if you were to join you could help greater than being seperated from us. I would help you and you can help me. Please Shadow, join us. Help me help you to save this land." He answered.
She was honestly surprised. After everything she's done, he was still willing to help her. Before long they were at the training grounds. "I will join, but only if you spar with me?" Shadow asked with a smile. "Alright, after all I brought you here so we could start on your training." He replied.
Amy, who was watching the two, growled. Ever since the ebony wolf came Sonic stopped hanging out with her. She was not happy about it. She loved Sonic, they were supposed to be betrothed. She watched as the two fought for a good bit of the day. It only made her more angry as it seemed Sonic was having more fun with the black wolf than herself.
As Shadow and Sonic raced back to the den to talk with Jules, Amy followed as well. Upon arriving, Jules was trying to think about how to feed the pack. Once he noticed the three, he turned towards them. "I will ask, did the black wolf accept?" Jules asked his son. "Yes father." Sonic answered. "Accept what?" Amy asked. "Why to be part of our pack. As one, Ebony, you must help us hunt. We must feed our pack." Jules instructed. Amy was dumbfounded at why they chose to let her in. "I am afraid, Alpha, that I must refuse. I will not allow the numbers to continue to dwindle. We must come upon an agreement to help protect the woodland creatures as well as the pack." Shadow responded.
"If you will not bring them back for us to feed the pack then I have no choice but to accept your proposal." Jules agreed. "For the number of wolves left, you would need to hunt no more than 5 every couple of days. If you agree, I will go get the woodland creatures. Break this and I will make sure the pack starves." Shadow responded with a slight growl. Jules nodded his head in agreement. With that Shadow turned to retrieve the creatures.
"Jules, why take her in!? With everything she has done?" Amy asked quickly. "It was a decision me and my son came to. She was doing too much harm, if she is a part of the pack maybe she would feel inclined to help instead." The Alpha responded. "She killed your wife!" Amy shouted. "It was an accident." Sam stepped up. Sam had been the nicest to ebony besides Sonic. He spoke with her on many nights. Through that he learned Aleenas death was an accident.
"What about burning the dens! Or killing our pups! Perhaps you forgot, she is also responsible for killing my parents along with many other wolves!" She shrieked. "Those are not forgotten, she will pay but with services of this pack." Jules responded. Amy stormed out of the Alphas den.
Jules turned to Sonic. "Son, will you agree to watch, train and be sure she performs her duties to our pack?" Jules asked. Sonic's tail wagged. "Of course. I will start with her training tomorrow." Sonic smiled. It was no surprise that he was excited to work with Shadow. Since she showed up, things picked up at an interesting pace. It was also clear he liked Shadow more than being around Amy.
He waited for her return. As she walked in, she noticed him. "Where have the others gone? I was sure they would like to know the creatures have returned." She said it was well into the night. "Amy left, Jules went on patrol." He answered. She nodded and layed down. She was tired, but she would not be the first to sleep.
"Shadow, if you want to do something for the good of the land run it by me first, ok? I may be able to suggest a better way to go about some things." Sonic said laying down across from her. "Very well. I am not used to having a partner, so excuse me if I fail at communication. " she said. "No worries! I'll help ya along the way as best I can!" He said happily, tail wagging. Sonic of course knew this would not be the last of her crazy ways but if he could he'd help curve them.
"Goodnight Shadow." Sonic stood and went to his sleeping spot. "Night." She whispered. In her mind, Sonic was strange, Jules may not be as bad as she thought, Amy.. well she didn't know what to think of her. Those were the two closest to Sonic, so she wouldn't hurt them. Not because she liked them, oh no it was more out of respect for Sonic. Or that's what she told herself. Sam she considered as a friend, she wouldn't hurt him.
Her loyalty was her best feature but it was also a cruel thing. Picking between two things she was loyal to, well that would really hurt her. She would not have joined the pack if she didn't have friends here. Though her loyalty lies with the woodland creatures and the forest. If it came to it, she would pick that over this pack. She just hoped it wouldn't come to that.
She laid her head down on her paws and sighed. It would be a worse decision if Sonic decided to stop helping her. She closed her eyes, laying down for some rest. If only she could know what her future truly held. Was she meant to wander forever? Or was there truly somewhere she fit in and could actually stay?
Her head began to hurt and decided to ponder on the matter another time, for now she will sleep. "Good night, Sonic." She whispered again.
