'I'm sorry, who is this?'

'It's Hawks. We met at the party last night.'

I went through my memories and recalled seeing him, but the name was pretty vague.

'How did you get my number?'

'Zion gave it to me. I was wondering if you wanna go out for lunch today.'

I wanted to stay home, but he seemed nice last night. Why not?

'Sure, let's meet at Stone Age at 1'

'See you then'

I put my phone in my pocket and walked out of my room. I walked over to Zion's room and knocked on the door. "Come in."

I opened the door and walked in. "Hey, why did you give Hawks my number?"

"He's a good friend of mine. He helped us get home last night. Is something wrong?" She asked.

"No, he wants to get lunch with me at one. I already said yes, but I really don't feel like leaving. I'm still feeling kind of sick."

Zion closed her laptop and moved it to the side of her bed. She patted the spot in front of her and I sat in front of her. She always did this when she needed to talk with me about something, and I dreaded her talks. It was the same way my mom talked to me.

"Why did you drink so much last night?" She asked.

I never liked talking about my feelings, especially when it came to drinking. I don't have a drinking problem, but I tend to drink too much instead of a proper amount at parties. Honestly, last night was the most I had ever drunk.

"I've been so stressed about school and I needed to let loose."

"Y/N, that's not letting loose. You were drinking like my dad."

"Zion, I promise you that I have been stressed. Drinking so much last night was a mistake. I won't do it again." I reassured her.

It wasn't school that was stressing me out. Nothing was stressing me out. I hated being in reality and having some kind of escape made me feel good. I felt in control of myself and my emotions whenever I was intoxicated. I didn't feel anything and, sometimes, I wouldn't remember.

I held out my pinkie and she wrapped hers around mine. We both smiled at each other. She started to look at my nails and shook her head.

"What? Why are you shaking your head?" I asked.

She got up and walked over to her vanity and pulled out three different nail polishes. Black, silver, and mint. She held them out in front of me. "Your nail polish is chipped and faded. I'm doing your nails. Pick one."

I looked at the options in front of me and picked the silver. I've never done silver before. It was a pretty color and it could go with any outfit I had. Zion put the other two nail polishes back on the vanity, and grabbed a bag of cotton balls and nail polish remover. She came back over to the bed and started to clean the previous nail polish off.

"You know you don't have to do this, right?" I said.

"I know, but I like doing girlie stuff with you. I've never had a sister so having you as my best friend feels like a two-in-one. Well, three-in-one if you count being like a daughter to me." She smiled.

Zion was the oldest of three boys. Her mom was constantly working in the emergency room ever since her parents got a divorce. Zion would be taking care of her brothers and picking them up from school, making sure they were fed, and keeping them occupied while her mom was away.
