In another Life: angst

I have decided to make my comeback and make it pure angst <3333

 cw: heavy angst, light mention of blood, character death,

(takes place straight after the battle in chapter 139 but I kept it spoiler free.)

You swore that you had never ran so fast in your life.

To tell the truth you were scared.

Scared that you would come across the worst outcome possible because of this scenario.

Yet you continued and ran through thick smoke not stopping until you saw a figure lying against a large boulder. As the smoke evaporated you rushed over and collapsed to your knees in joy and relief. "Levi! I'm so...I'm so glad you're okay." you panted out of breath. Your eyes scanned him ,checking over him quickly for any major injuries. He looked exhausted, his body drained.

He dropped his arm from saluting, "Did...did you see them?" he spoke slowly, voice barely audible to you. You turned to look back at the smoke disappearing knowing exactly what he was talking about.

"Yes, yes. I saw them, Levi." you said, eyes meeting with his tired grey eyes raising a hand on his cheek. "I'm sure they're so proud of you right now." you said, reassuring him as your eyes started tearing up slightly.

He smiled softly as another tear rolled down his cheek immediately you wiped it away with your thumb, a small smile across your lips. He spoke out your name softly pausing a little to breathe. "I'm...I'm so tired." he spoke, his eyelids beginning to droop as he struggled to stay awake.

You placed your other hand on his other cheek now cupping his face. "I know, I know. But I need you to stay awake for me, okay Levi?" your voice shook a little as you struggled to keep your emotions together. He mumbled incoherently trying to keep his eyes open.

For nobody else but you.

"You're so warm." he mumbled. You let out a short laugh, tears now uncontrollably streaming down your face. You knew.

Yet it was too early.

You had just gotten the chance to spend the rest of your lives together, it can't end now.

He attempted to lift his arm, shaking a little as his hand slowly reached to cup your cheek. You melted into his touch not caring about the dried blood on his skin. "You're so cold." you whispered, tears blurring your view of him. His thumb imitated yours and wiped a fresh tear strolling down your cheek.

"You're so beautiful." His eyes gleamed as he looked at you, a reminder that there still was life in him.

"I love you so much." you croaked. He looked at you as if you were the most precious thing in the world. His thumb continued to caress your skin softly as if you could break under his touch. You were the most important person he had ever known and he swore to protect you for the rest of his life.

"I love you."

You smiled bringing your hands to cover his own which was still placed on your cheek, attempting to give him warmth. "Levi we should go, you need...you need to stay warm." He responded with silence still staring at you with all the love that he had ever known in his life. The love that you gave him.

He'd already accepted what was to come next, he didn't want anything else but to be with you. To be next to you and to touch you, he had fought his whole life to be at peace and to feel loved... now that he had found it, he wasn't going to let go.

He shook his head subtly, "No...I want to stay with you."

"But you-"

He cut you off, "We have our whole lives to spend together. " He whispered, still stroking your cheek. "I'm going to marry you and we're..." He paused, taking the time to breathe. "We're going to buy a house for the two of us, maybe open a little tea shop. I'll make the tea and you...you'll bake all sorts of cakes and desserts. Everybody will love them." he lightly laughed, his own eyes tearing up. "We'll have kids, however many you want. I don't care as long as they look just like you." You held on tightly to his hand, smiling at the thought of your future together, "And we'll grow old together...watch our kids grow up...and...and then the grandkids..." He mumbled words slowly cutting off.

You inhaled sharply before exhaling thinking of ways to keep Levi responsive. "You idiot." you muttered, "I haven't even said yes yet." However you already knew that would've been your answer either way.

His eyes shut briefly, taking a moment as he grinned. His eyelids opened once more as he said your full name which he memorised off by heart. "Will you marry me brat?"

You didn't hesitate to accept, leaning forward to place a soft kiss upon his lips. His touch comforted you, the past events had already been forgotten as his taste healed you of all pain and loss that you had gone through over the past few years. You wish that you could've held onto this moment forever. You didn't ever want to part away from him. You didn't even want to imagine life without Levi by your side.

But everything has to come to an end at some point.

It was just the case of a goodbye that came too early.

"Don't go yet...please." you pleaded softly, taking in the touch of his skin one last time. His hand dropped from your cheek into your hand gripping it tightly.

"I'm never leaving you." he muttered, voice starting to get softer with each word. "I'll always be by your side."

You bit back on your lip trying to hold back your flow of tears once more. You lifted his hand which gripped yours and kissed his cold skin gently as a gust of wind came over you. The sound of the breeze filled the silence between you as you repeatedly placed your lips on his skin.

Levi breathed out your name ever so faintly yet he still grasped your attention. "Yes? What is it?" you responded, your voice breaking.

"I'm so happy...I'm so happy I met you. I would've...I would do...everything...all over again...if...if it means I get to hold you again." His chest rose up and collapsed heavily as he let out short gasped breaths.

"I love you so much." you gripped his hand tightly not caring anymore about the tears coming down your face. You just wanted him to stay here with you.

"Promise...promise me you'll find me again...in another life."

"I promise." you spoke incapable of saying anything more.

He gave one last smile and his grip on your hand loosened, " I'll know it's you when I find you." He mumbled. "I love you..." He whispered as his eyes finally shut and his body relaxed, his grip now released.

You kissed his hand once more, his skin now gone completely cold as his chest stopped rising and falling. Your soul felt empty and your heart ached with pain. The fire inside you died away along with your lover.

And now...the only way to relight it was to find him again and reunite with him in another life.
