It was a rare sight. A rare night for a scarce occasion. One not to be taken for granted. You weren't one to request for the unreasonable but finally it seemed that the universe had heard you for once. You would forever be grateful that you were able to return from an expedition without a single casualty. Sure, a few bumps and bruises were gained but overall everyone had arrived back safe and sound.
Realizing the impossible had in fact actually become possible, there wasn't a single person hesitating to celebrate.
Sat on the bench with cheeks slightly flushed from numerous drinks- that you hadn't been keeping count of no thanks to Hange- and you had settled with observing the rest of the scouts from the sidelines.
Stifling a laugh to yourself at the sight of Hange continuing to throw themselves drunk at any human passing by and immediately dragging them off to dance with Moblit shortly following behind, clearly struggling to keep up.
You smiled at the sight of Petra being unexpectedly surrounded by a group of people that were intensely watching as she dramatically threw her arms around indicating that she was telling a story, you watched the faces of all the 'ooo's' and 'ahhh's' of her storytelling.
In the corner of your eye you glimpsed at the sight of Nanaba preparing drinks to give to any soldiers passing and you quickly noticed that she was shoving a drink in their hand anyways before they could come to a decision themselves.
Distracted by your personal observations it took you a while to notice a figure had taken a seat next to you.
Someone who you didn't expect to see in this particular social setting which was your captain.
"Fancy seeing you here." you announced, taking a swig at your drink which you noted was to be refilled soon.
"Could say the same for you, I didn't think you were one for partying." he remarked, raising a brow.
Which to an extent was true, after late nights helping with paperwork with Levi it mostly ended up with you reading a novel, sitting on his quite uncomfortable couch as you took a break or spending your rarely free days sat on a hill once again with a book in your hand.
"Well, it's rare to return from an expedition with little to no casualties." you excused, taking another small sip.
"I guess that's true." he mumbled.
"A drink?" you offered, tilting your cup towards him.
With a shake of his head he indicated that he was fine, "It doesn't have any effect on me, it'll just make me feel shitter tomorrow."
With a snort you drank down the rest of your week pulling a face afterwards, "Well you're clearly missing out, it's not everyday we get to do this right?"
"You clearly haven't seen Mike's secret stash I presume." this earned a little chuckle out of you this resulted with a slight bit of pride burning in Levi's chest.
A comfort of silence spread between you and your captain as silently he joined you in observing the crowd and you took it as his idea to purposely stay on the sideline purposely to avoid Hange.
Breaking the silence after a couple of minutes he soon murmured to you under his breath,
"Don't take this for granted."
"Huh?"
"I said don't take this for granted because..." he broke off, unable to think of a way to finish his sentence without ruining the entire atmosphere. "Well, you know." was what he ended up with, He figured you were smart enough to come up to your own conclusions.
