Chapter 27

This chapter is quite long but it's worth it.

Allegra's POV

I wake up suddenly at the feeling of Leo shaking me.

"Get up, we have to leave. Take what you need. Your flash drive, laptop? Anything. Get it now" I hear people screaming and the sounds of bullets being fired and I run to my room grabbing the flash drive, phone and journal. Then I reached under my desk grabbing the envelope.

The brown leather book is cold to the touch and I grab it running back to Leo. He has two duffel bags on the bed and he tucks his glock in his waistband and puts magazines in the bag.

"What's going on?" As I ask Mr. Rossi enters the room grabbing my things out of my hand and stuffing it in the second duffel bag.

"Allegra, we are leaving through the basement. There is a tunnel that leads to the underground garage. From there we can get out safely." He says as he holds the second duffel and Leo slings the first one over his shoulder before grabbing another gun and handing it to me.

"Stay behind me" he says before holding my hand and walking me out the door.

"I have no clothes. I don't even have on shoes" I complain but I shut up when I see someone at the end of the hallway pointing a gun at my head.

"Don't shoot. She is on the no kill list" I hear a voice as I see another man appear before they both run down the opposite hall.

"Leo, why the hell are mafia men attacking?" He pulls me closer to him as we make our way to the basement dodging bullets.

"Mafia?" He questions and I almost want to slap him.

"I know a mafia when I see one. They also nodded towards you and I did research on you. You are a part of the Italian mafia." As I say my words Leo stares me down as if silently telling me to shut up.

"Is it a problem that I am? Because last time I checked Ace is the heir to the Spanish mafia, and Roman is second in command to the Russian mafia." He mumbles as he continues pulling my arm into the tunnel. The floor is smooth so it doesn't hurt my feet.

Roman. Second in command? To the Russian mafia? When the fuck did he have time for that?

Well it's very possible that he offered them safety in exchange for power. He was always good at making impossible deals.

"You are next in line to be the Don of the Italian mafia aren't you? Vince doesn't know that you are taking his birthright and that's why you are keeping it a secret." He stops walking at my words and turns around.

"His birthright was to die with his brother. All I did was defeat the Americans and continued the line for the Italians like his father asked me too. That's right. His father and Malachi were friends. That's how he picked me to be next. He thought Vince would end up dead so he did what he had to" his voice became more aggressive.

"I didn't ask for this, it was given to me. Just like how I gave the American mafia to Gregory. Yes, I helped your father but once he was in Malachi's hold I could no longer do anything. And you Allegra, are the next Don after him, it's why they haven't attacked you in the last five years. It's why no mafia has ever attacked you. Even after you murdered some members on Sharon's orders. We overtook them and they are under our control. It's why that man nodded to me. I am their boss. And the Americans will not touch you because of whose blood runs in your veins." He then turns around pulling me into the underground garage where Mr. Rossi waits.

I'm quiet and allow all the new information to sink in. Once again I was lied to. But was it really a lie if I never asked? If I never even noticed?

Leo isn't entitled to tell me everything and I have no right to be mad. It doesn't hurt any less though.
