do not simply want
something like love
they do not care
about holding hands
long
heartfelt hugs
late night conversations
hand written love letters
or sweet first kisses
they care about how quickly
they can get into your pants
how easily they can make you crumble
they care about temporary things
like sex and one night stands
they don't care
about making you laugh
they aren't there
when you are sad
when you need someone the most
but you were always different
you told all your friends about me
you held me close
and played with my hair
and asked me every day
if i was doing well
you helped me gain confidence
lifted me up
you pulled me out
of my weak mental state
and made me
the definition of happiness
people are a breed
that i have always
been cautious of
but you
you're different
i don't feel as if i need
to defend myself
from you
you make me feel protected
you make me feel safe
i know that you wont hurt me
because you are so much different
than most people
you have stayed
through my highs
and lows
no matter how hard it gets
you stay
because you are different
you aren't like most people
and for that
i am grateful
