Shiny Happy People

Izzie and Alex are standing beside each other drinking at Derek's party.

"This party blows" Alex tells her

"Don't say that" she rebukes "we are supporting Derek. Besides even if the party blows the food is good."

"So you're admitting the party blows?" He teases

"Shut up" she laughs

Izzie goes down to the pit and is assigned to a case with Lexie, Reed and Callie.

After the patient, Betty, hangs up on the phone with her son she tries to set the doctors up with him.

"Oh I'm dating someone, kind of" Lexie replies referring to Jackson, though everyone knew their 'relationship' was nothing short of complicated. "How about you reed you go for older guys right?"

Izzie tries to hide her laughter but it's hard to contain herself since she's hated Reed since day one.

While wheeling the patient to her room she is reunited with an old friend from half a century ago. I bough they haven't seen each other in forever they talk as if no time has passed. They exchange room numbers and they wheel her up to her room.

While in her room Betty tells them the story about how she was Henry's wife's roommate. She was supposed to be their maid of honor but she left because she fell in love with Henry.
She wanted to be with Henry forever but she couldn't risk her friendship with his fiancé.

Their forbidden love story nearly brought them all to tears.

Both Betty and Henry's Teams agreed to have them share a room so they could catch up with one another.

While Alex is working on diagnosing his patient Izzie walks up to him.

"Hey, what are you up to?" She asks

"I'm trying to diagnose a patient" she responds "She is 16, was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. She tried to claw her eyes out, she's suicidal-"

"That makes sense with schizophrenia-" she interrupts him.

"It's not schizophrenia! I know what crazy looks like, this isn't it. It has to be something else."

"Okay, sorry. I'm on another case but I can help you look during lunch."

He returns with a smile and she goes to check on Betty.

During lunch they flip through books and case files and struggle to find anything.

"She's got hyperacusis, vertigo, tinnitus, nystagmus. This blows" Alex complains.

"Yeah I'm completely lost too" Izzie agrees.

"Lexie!" Alex tells across the cafeteria.

She walks up to their table "hey, what's up?"

"I need help diagnosing a patient"

"She isn't a book you can flip through" Meredith defends her.

"I kind of am" Lexie replies. "Show me what you got"

Alex explains the case to her and she describes a book with a diagnosis that matches the symptoms. Alex heads to the research library and Izzie returns to her patient.

While in surgery Lexie keeps talking about Mark and Reed but saying she's over him and Jackson. While Callie is saying she felt the same way with Arizona and she wishes she could change her mind.

"All I want is for her to change her mind and say yes" Callie told them.

"Sometimes people try and try but they want different things or it's just not the right time for them. Maybe someday she'll change her mind" Izzie yells her

"Yeah maybe"

Izzie is in the kitchen frosting cupcakes when Alex gets home. He lifts her off the ground into a hug and spins her around.

"Woah" she laughs "I'm guessing you had a good day.

"I did it Iz, I diagnosed Hayley and we gave her her life back, all because they listened to me" Alex tells her.

"That's amazing!"  She wraps her arms around him and gives him a kiss.

"We're gonna be great doctors Iz, you and I. We'll be great surgeons and have amazing kids. Oh our kids will be perfect."

"Wow" Izzie replied in shock. "Where is this all coming from?"

"I don't know, but I'm excited and I'm ready. I really feel ready"

He grabs her for another kiss. They were finally both on the same exact page, they were both prepared, they knew they could have an amazing future together.
