Izzie Stevens: Here to Stay

Izzie and Alex are in bed in the on call room discussing their future. Izzie has been waiting what feels like forever to discuss her future with Alex but he was always too scared. Now he wasn't anywhere close to scared , he was excited.

"So here's my idea" Izzie proposes "In about a year in a half I'll be two years in remission, which is the recommended time for me to wait to get pregnant. And for the transfer I want Addison, I want Addison to be my OB, she's the best of the best and I know pregnancy is more risky for me."

"Iz everything will be fine" he reassures her. "But it is a good idea to ask Addison. Also I want the kids to grow up with a dog in the house."

"Oh a dog?" She asks "what kind of dog?"

"Maybe a golden retriever or a lab?"

Their pagers go off interrupting them.
They both jump out of bed and head down to the pit.

Alex is assigned to a case while Izzie needs to file paperwork for the clinic.

Izzie heads upstairs to a nurses station before lockdown is announced. She overheard Lexie and Mark talking. Mark tells Lexie how he misses her, Izzie rolls her eyes at how desperate he sounds, but continues working on paperwork.

Izzie gets distracted by a nurse yelling at a man walking up the stairs to not leave the area. He turns around, pulls a gun out of his pocket and shoots her. Izzie ducks down to the ground and hides behind the desk while Gary walks upstairs.

Everyone begins running every which way and Mark grabs Lexie and they run towards the elevator. While everyone else is trying to leave the area Izzie stays on the ground frozen in fear.

Mark notices Izzie on the ground and grabs her by the arm.

"Stevens come with us" he tells her.

They run towards the elevator to try to leave. The doors open to Alex on the ground laying in a pool of his own blood.

Mark carries him into a conference room and lays him on the table while Izzie and Lexie bring any supplies they could think of.

Mark tries to talk to Alex and inform him that he's been shot while Lexie is freaking out scared Gary is going to come back. Izzie just stands there, looking over at Alex, shaking.

"No exit wound we're gonna have to flip him" Mark tells Lexie and Izzie.

Izzie just stands there in silence.

"Stevens?" Mark tries to get her attention. "Izzie!"

"What!?" She snaps at him.

"Help us flip him" Mark tells her.

They flip him over to find no exit wound.

"There is still a bullet in his chest?" Izzie asks beginning to freak out again.

"Stevens stay calm." Mark tells her.

"Calm? Stay calm!" Izzie begins to yell "My husband was shot! There is a bullet in my husbands chest and you are telling me to stay calm!?"

"Izzie quiet down" Lexie whisper screams at her. "He could come back here, you need to quiet down"

Izzie takes a deep breathe and tries to calm herself down. Izzie stands over Alex stroking his hair and holding his hand trying to keep him calm and breathing.

Mark Lexie and Izzie all try to do whatever they can to help Alex but he is losing a lot of blood and their resources are limited.

"He needs a transfusion" Mark tells them. "I don't know what we're gonna do"

"I'll go get the supplies" Izzie tells them.

"No" Lexie stops her "Alex needs you here, I'll go"

"Are you sure?"

"We don't have any other options." Lexie says before she walks out the door.

They wait for Lexie for what feels like forever, watching his vitals tank with limited resources to use.

Finally Lexie arrives with the supplies.

"This better work, there isn't much more I can do for him" Mark tells them.

Those works break Izzie's heart.

"Please don't die, Alex" Izzie begs him. "I can't lose you, please don't die."

"Iz..." Alex  croaks "I'm sorry, I don't want to leave you but..."

"Alex no!" She stops him. "You can't die! Just think about what we talked about this morning. You need to stay alive so you can meet our kids someday and we'll have a beautiful house with a nice big yard where the kids can play fetch with the dog. This can't be the end for us Alex, you can't die. You fought to keep me alive and I'm doing the same for you. You can't die. Okay? I love you. I love you so so much you can't die."

Suddenly the door slams open. They turn around to see the SWAT team there to evacuate them. They let out a sigh of relief.

Izzie rides with Teddy in the ambulance bringing Alex to Seattle Pres.

Izzie waits in the waiting room in tears while waiting for Teddy to be finished. Teddy brings Izzie to Alex's room and she runs to his bedside. She grabs his hand and stays beside him all night.
