A lot had happened since last summer. Firstly Mateo had set up a FaceTime call with his wife Daria and she confirmed that they had separated. I was so relieved not just for her but for him as well because if he was lying he would have kissed this earth goodbye. Things with Chase didn't work out. When he found out I had a fanny he told me it was either anal or a strap on. I liked him but not that much. Kenneth a holidaymaker from last year had opened his own salon in the hotel. I had taken a peek around on more than one occasion and it looked quite professional. However it was a bit give or take on the opening hours. Les's son Liam who was also here on holiday last year had decided to stay for good and was given a job working at the Solana by Janie. Speaking of Janie last summer marked the last one spent with her as the manger. A few days ago she announced she was leaving the Solana. She claims she found a better job but I think she might've been given the boot after the incident with the live dance group. I did try and warn her that the Sausage sizzlers weren't a group of dancing hot dogs suitable for kids. Since Janie left the Solana has been without a manger so as you can imagine it was in absolute chaos.
It was quite early so mine and Mateos morning shift behind the pool bar was quite relaxed at the minute. We were both watching Liam try and clean the water fountain in the middle of the pool. I stress try because all he was doing was waving the mop around the spout. From the moment Liam joined I got the feeling that Mateo didn't like him much like he didn't like his dad originally. I can see why to be honest. He had the intellect of a cardboard box. But despite that he was a sweet boy so I just tried to be calm with him. "Right! Now dad!" He shouted to Les who was on the other side of the bar. Liam was crouched over the fountain with his face right over the spout. "Ah now come on son play the game. You know better than that" Les said patiently. It was beyond me how he could remain patient with that boy. "What?" His head lifted up and he looked as confused as a teenager learning about compounds. Les silently gestures to his daft position over the fountain. Liam slowly smiled with realisation. "I'll get out of the way and then you can turn it on-" suddenly he was cut of by the fountain forcefully sprayed water into his face making him fall back in the pool. The sudden water startled me a bit and briefly confused me because I didn't know how it started. However when I heard a pleased laugh coming from Mateo I then knew. I looked down to see his hand on the switch. I immediately shot him a look. "Oops" he shrugged as he continued to laugh at Liams misfortune. "What are you playing at man?" Les ran as fast as he could which isn't fast around the side the pool to help his son. Liam looked like he could swim but not very well. He resembled a wasp when it gets stuck in your glass of Pepsi. "Don't worry son. Just stay where you are. I'm coming". Mateo was still laughing very loudly. "Yeah alright jokes over now you little shit" I slapped him in the chest lightly. I then smacked him harder when he mocked being hurt. "Turn it of!" I ordered. I watched his hand grasp the switch and twisle it a bit. But instead of the water stopping the entire switch came of in his hand. Mateo clearly knew he was in trouble because he looked at me for help. "Oh my god you twat" I huffed. Now being the very mature responsible man he was he dropped the broken switch on the floor smoothly put his hand on my shoulder and discretely escorted us away from the scene.
