This morning I woke up with a rather impressive bruise across my back from were Tonya slammed me into the table. I hoped that all would be forgotten today because I really wasn't in the mood for a second round.
I arrived at the Solana a bit earlier today as the bruise had woken me up at daft O'clock. When I got there it was predictably quiet in reception so I walked round to the pool bar to see Mateo and Enrique hovering near Madge. I was a bit surprised to see Madge up at this time and more surprised that she didn't have a cigarette in her mouth.
The two men looked like they wanted to go over but were too scared to. I went to join them at the side.
"Why are you staring at that old lady?" I whispered from behind them causing Mateo ti jump a little. "I knew you didn't mind old ladies but I didn't know you went that old" i added.
He rolled his eyes at me. "No, I need to tell her she is too early for breakfast". He explained.
I frowned a little. "Okay? So go and tell she is too early for breakfast" I said in a 'duh' tone.
He rocked anxiously on the back of his heels. "But you know what that one is like" he stated.
"Mateo" I began. "Are you telling me you're afraid of a old woman, the size of a large rabbit, in a wheelchair?" I asked him. I was mostly just taking the mick to be honest. I knew full well she could be scary.
"Alright fine, I go" he declared pumping himself up like he was about to run a marathon. "But stand by, that one is crazy".
"My, how brave!" I said sarcastically. He timidly walked up to Madge looking like he'd left the hanger in his vest. I smiled in amusement as he awkwardly stood in front of her.
"Hola" he greeted with a cheerful smile.
"Hello love" Madge replied both politely and softly. I was confused by this as Madge usually only had one tone and it was rude.
"You know you are too for breakfast?" Mateo blurted out rather randomly. I mentally facepalmed at the way he said it. "You're going to have to wait at least another half hour". He took a step back like he was awaiting an explosion. But it didn't come.
"That's all right, love" she said softly again. "I was just enjoying the view" she gazed over to the side, where the not so brilliant view of the hotel was.
Mateo glanced over to me and gave me a 'what the fuck' look to which I shrugged and shook my head.
"Oh, I can move if I'm in your way" she offered politely. Mateo glanced over to me and gave me a 'what the fuck' look to which I shrugged and shook my head.
"No, no. You can stay here. The view is all inclusive" he assured her, not even bothering to hide his surprise.
"Have you ever thought why we're here?" Madge asked quite suddenly. I watched Mateo eyebrows knit together in confusion.
"I am at work. You are on holiday" he answered a little unsure, like he had just been picked on by the teacher.
"No, I mean why we're put on the earth in the first place? What's it all about?" She reiterated. Mateo looked like his head was about to explode so I decided to help.
I went over a stood beside him. "Sorry love" I began talking to Madge. "But my colleague is not at all qualified to answer those questions" she nodded at me with a kind face, something I'd never seen on her before.
"I suggest you try our business centre. They have the interweb there" Mateo added just proving how unqualified he was to do anything that involved intellect. I rolled my eyes at him.
