When I got up this morning I let out a huge groan. Today was the day, what I like to call, a crossover day. Allow me to explain. Anyone booked on a coach holiday stays for a week at the Solana, then after that week the coach comes back to drop off another lot and pick up the previous group. Sounds like it should all run smoothly right?
Wrong! Because for about an hour everyone is either checking out or checking in. The reception area begins to look like a rave with people jumping around and waving their arms to try and get staffs attention. So I had all that to look forward too.
The victims of the pig from yesterday were still having to run to the toilet this morning but not as frequently as last night. That wasn't great when you're working in reception, which is right by the toilets.
Joyce was still a little emotional and internally freaking out even though she put on a calm facade. She had resorted to pacing around and trying to make herself busy.
And now for the big question: what happened to Kenneth? The ambulance arrived pretty quickly for Benidorm and rushed him to hospital with Liam. We all drove over to meet them and it turns out Kenneth had a heart attack. Luckily he was still alive. He was still there today and Liam had gone to be with him.
Anyway, like I said, I was at reception this morning with Mateo and Leslie. We were mainly just bracing ourselves for the hoards that were they come, when Joyce trotted over to us. She was trying her hardest to be uplifting but she was trying to hard and it was obvious.
"Morning team. Everything ship-shape and Bristol fashion?" She chirped with a clear hint of fear and sadness in her voice. Me and Mateo just gave her sympathetic look. "Never mind" she sighed.
"Everything is running like clockwork" Leslie assured her. In case you're wondering, as well as it being crossover day, the big hotel boss woman was coming regarding yesterdays pig incident.
"Yeah, we've always managed to cope with situations like this in the past so don't worry about it" I pointed out to her. I thought back to when Mateo was 'fired' and the time she had to bribe the hotel inspector. Good times. She seemed to calm down at that comment but then Mateo decided to chip in.
"Of course she has to worry. The big boss is coming to leave her the sack" he told us innocently. He really needs to learn how to read a room.
And Leslie didn't help. "It's give her the sack, not leave her the sack" she corrected. I mentally facepalmed.
"Not that that will happen" I added quickly.
"Don't worry, Gaby, it's fine" she interrupted before we could worry her anymore. "Whatever the CEO of Solana Europe decides to do with me after yesterdays event, well" she paused. "That's up to her". This was one of the first times I genuinely respected and felt for Joyce. She was willing to take this bullet for us and out on a brave face. Like Aslan in Narnia. "Que sera, sera?" She quoted with a nervous chuckle.
Now would be good time to say something helpful but Mateo decided to say this instead. "What time does Miss Sara Sara get here?" He asked being fully serious. "I will make sure she's looked after, yes?".
Joyce looked at me with the most confused 'is he serious' face. I just gave her a thin smile and shrugged.
"No, Kay Sara-Sara isn't her name, that's just a saying" she told him. "Her name is Crystal Hennessy-Vass".
We all snorted at that name. "I think I prefer Kay Sara-Sara" Mateo said with a laugh.
"Oh God, I bet she's a right uppity prick" I added laughing too.
"Well make of that what you will" Joyce dismissed. "Now Leslie, you haven't forgotten about the Dutch dignitaries arriving have you?" She asked.
Leslie was about to answer but Mateo decided to go in for the hatrick. "What are the Dutch dingleberries?" He asked us. Both women looked a bit fed up so I dealt with him.
