I still cannot believe it, that everything the Newmans built is now mine. I came from nothing, I had nothing in me when I left my old town and got here in Hartford. And now I am the richest woman in the east coast.
"How can that be?!" Camilla shouts as she looked at me with her eyes.
"It is what Mr. Charles Newman wrote at his will" Mr. Jacobs said.
"What about me?" Camilla asked.
"You will be given an allowance every month to sustain your needs" the lawyer replied.
"This is impossible" Camilla replied then walked out of the room.
Charles' Uncle Henry can't think of anything to say.
"Well then, we should get back to work" Charles' cousin Oliver said. I looked at him as he nods and left the room.
"He also wrote that when your children had come to the proper age, you must decide who will be the owner of Elmyra" Mr. Jacobs said.
Charles hasn't chosen between Artie and Alec. He really planned this all along if something bad happened.
"Written here is that when your third child is old enough, she will have the entire property in Georgia" the lawyer continued.
"Third child?" Uncle Henry asked.
"Mrs. Newman is pregnant" the lawyer replied.
"Ohh... congratulations" Uncle Henry replied. He looked very surprised.
"That would be all" the lawyer said.
"Thank you" I said then started walking out of the office.
When I passed at the hallway, I saw Camilla waiting. She looks very pissed about knowing that I will get everything.
"You must be glad that Charles died" she said.
How can she say that? I don't ever want Charles to die. I don't need all this money; I just want Charles to be alive.
"Why would I be glad Camilla? My children lost their father. I am all alone." I said to her.
Camilla slapped me. I slapped her back.
"How dare you?!" she sounded really mad and tried to hurt me again, but I stopped her hand.
"I will not let you hurt me again. If you ever get into my way and try to harass me, I will make sure that you will never receive anything even a penny" I warned her.
"You bitch!" Camilla shouted. I walked away from her.
I will not let her treat me like crap. I need to stand for myself now, now that Charles is gone.
I got in the car and didn't speak a word even with Lola.
Everything will change our lives and especially our home. How can I tell my children that their father is gone? How can I explain to them that he will never come back?
"Mrs. Newman, are you alright?" Lola asked.
"Yes" I said to her.
My phone rang. The laywer is calling.
Me: Hello
Mr. Jacobs: Mrs. Newman, I forgot to tell you one more thing. It is not written at the will, but he wants you to talk to his cousin, Jeremiah Wilson. I will send you his contact.
Me: What will I tell him?
Mr Jacobs: Tell him what happened to Mr. Newman. I bet he knows what exactly Mr. Newman wants him to do. That would be all, Mrs. Newman.
