Madison
I can't stop looking at him, I never imagined that this moment will come, to see someone with the same face as the man I truly loved.
"Madison, hey" Jeremiah said.
"Come with me" William Spencer said. We followed him to walk at the store. So many books in here, about History, Sciences and Children's Books to have.
"You must be talking about this kid over here" William Spencer said as he showed us the way to my son, sitting on the floor reading what appears to be Lord of the Rings.
I rushed to him, and hugged my child.
"Mommy, I'm reading" Alec replied. I started crying.
"Don't you ever runaway like that again, baby" I told Alec.
"What happened Mommy?" He asked.
"We've been looking for you for some time. You made Grandma, me, Artie and Uncle Jem worried." I told him.
"I didn't see him come here earlier, I just noticed him awhile ago." William spoke.
"Thank you so much for leading us to him, if you need anything I am willing to help." I told him.
"Uhmm, by the way I am Madison Newman, this is my number if you will ever need anything'; just to pay back your kindness." I told him as I handed him my calling card.
"Thank you, man" Jeremiah told him.
"Mommy!" I heard Artie's voice.
"Madie!" Then I heard my mom's.
"We're here! We found Alec already" I told them.
Mom and Artie walked towards us, and it seems like it's not only me who thought that this man, William Spencer looks like my husband.
"Oh dear God" Mom said as she put her hands on her face in surprise to see someone like Charles.
"It's Daddy!" Artie rushed to William and gave him a hug.
William seems to be surprised for that. He just patted Artie's back.
"Artie, dear he is not daddy" I told him.
"Mommy, are you sure he's not daddy?" Artie asked as he moved away from William.
"Sorry ahmm, Artie. You are mistaken. My name is William" William told Artie.
"Marienne!" The old man from the front approached my Mom.
"Dennis?" Mom knows the old man? What a coincidence. They gave each other a hug.
"You know each other?" I asked.
"Yes, Madie. Dennis here worked with your father when we were here. Right before you were born." Mom replied.
"Oh with that, I just knew she resembles her father. Max is such a pretty boy back in the day." Dennis said.
"Well, that's true." Mom started to feel a little sad.
"What about these kids? Are they your grandkids?" Dennis asked my Mom.
"Yes they are. That's Artie then that's Alec and I also have a granddaughter back in Hartford, Alana." Mom said.
"Mom, I want this book and I'm hungry" Alec said.
"Well, we are buying this book and we are going to have a meal" I told Alec.
"Take the book" William said.
"I insist we must pay" I told him.
"Here" Jeremiah pulled out some cash.
"It's a gift" William said. I just can't help but think of him as Charles. I still long for him after all the years that passed.
"Come over to our house, I am sure Eleanor would be glad to meet you" Dennis said.
"We are too many" Mom said to him.
"It's not a problem. Eleanor still cooks dinner like there's a feast" Dennis replied.
"We are closing the store already, come with us" he added.
"Then we will" Mom said with a smile.
They all started walking out of the bookstore.
"Go on, I will be needing to talk to the police." I told them.
"I'll go with you" Jeremiah said.
"We can wait" Dennis said.
Jeremiah and I talked to the police, we thanked them for their help and effort for looking for my kid that I technically found with the help of the man who looks like my Charles.
-----------------------------------
We reached the Spencer's Residence and it seems very pleasant in here. It's not that big, but the place feels like home.
"Dennis" an old woman comes, it must be William's mother.
"Eleanor, look who I just run into" Dennis said.
"Marienne?" Eleanor said with joy and they hugged each other.
"You have a very beautiful home Sir" I told Dennis.
"Thank you, but I am pretty sure yours is more beautiful" he said.
Jeremiah's phone is ringing.
"I'll be outside for awhile" Jeremiah said then he left.
"You are the CEO of Elmyra" William said to me.
"Yes, I am" I told him.
"That's very impressive, I heard your husband had passed and he must be proud of you" William spoke. I started to feel sad again.
"I am sure he is" I told him.
"Do I really look like him?" William asked.
"Yes, that my kid thought the same thing" I told him then laughed a little.
"I am surprised, I haven't seen your husband so I don't know" William said.
I took out my wallet, and let him look at Charles' photograph.
"This is him" I told him.
"Yeah, we are very much a like. I can see now why" he said.
"He is just more sophisticated, more intimidating" he replied.
"At first he was, but you won't think of him like that once you knew him better" I told him.
"But anyway, if you ever need anything just call. You really helped us in finding my son." I told him.
----------------------
We had dinner, I just missed a simple life just like this. This was what I hoped for when I was younger. My family and I in a dining table in a simple home. But instead I am in a mansion, needing to be in the busy streets of Hartford, to the enormous Elmyra building.
But in the end, I still have to continue what Charles had left me. I still need to continue what his family started, for our children.
And seeing William, made me miss Charles even more. I thought I've moved on after years away, but I haven't.
To Charles,
I love you still,
help me get through all this
