Madison

I see flashbacks of William Spencer in my head. I surely remember my husband in him. It was like speaking to Charles, but in a different timeline.

"Madie, are you alright?" Mom asked me.

"Yes, why wouldn't I be?" I asked her.

"You were smiling for no reason." Mom said.

"am I?" I asked her.

"Yes" Mom replied.

"It's nothing Mom, how's Alana?" I changed the topic of the conversation.

"She's asleep, and so are the boys." Mom replied.

"Thank you Mom for helping me with all these. I couldn't have done it without you." I told her.

"It's the least I can do, after all the things you and your sister have been through." she replied.

"You should rest now, Mom" I told her.

"You too, Madie" Mom spoke as she started walking upstairs to go to her room.

It's late in the evening, and I still think of him. But also can't stop thinking of what could have happened if Charles and I safely got home that night.

-------------------

Early that morning, I arrived at Elmyra to work. It felt like I am getting used to it, despite today being the second day for me.

I love being the boss, I guess. Everyone greets you when you walk and talk when you're not around. It's how offices work. And I can't fire them all, they just have to look nice in front of me.

While at my office, I did not expect for Luke to come.

He knocked on my door and waved. He still have his big smile, I cannot hide the fact that I missed my best friend too.

"Come in!" I told him with the biggest smile I can give.

"I was supposed to come here yesterday, but you left early. What happened?" Luke asked.

"It's Alec, he went missing. But don't worry, we found him right away." I told Luke.

"What happened?" Luke asked.

"Mom will be visiting a friend in New London, Artie and Alec came along. They stopped for gas, then Alec just run out of the car to a bookstore. Then they don't know where he had been." I told him.

"I'm so glad, you found him." Luke replied.

"Yes, I was going crazy. But I managed to stay calm." I told him.

"What about your little girl? We haven't seen her yet" Luke said.

"Alana is amazing, she can say few words now." I told him.

"Well, it must have been better if Charles was here." Luke said.

"Yes, he will be thrilled to take care of our little girl." I told him.

"What about Camilla?" I asked him.

"Well, Camilla. She's getting harder to deal with. But I just want to be with her." Luke started to look problematic.

"I know she still hates me. But thank you for staying with her. We could have been together in getting through all that happened. But she hates me" I told him.

"Yes, I always tell her that it's not your fault that all of this happened. That she should be there for you and the children." Luke said.

"I hope Camilla will change her mind." I said to Luke.

"I hope she will too." Luke replied.

"Well I should go, it's nice seeing you back. I'll see you around." Luke said as he slowly walked out of my office.

"See you around." I told him.

I continued on reading all these contracts. It's safe to say that I am better now after my education in London. It feels good to know things like this, and also to have Jeremiah in my aid.

After some time, my phone rang.

Unknown Number

Who could this be?

I answered the phone.

"Hello" I spoke.

"Madison?" It's Charles. I can't believe it.

"Charles?" I asked.

"Uhmm no. It's me, William Spencer from last night." He said.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't expecting this, you sounded like my husband." I told him.

"I understand." William replied.

"What can I do for you?" I asked him.

"I'm here at Hartford. I was here because of a Book Fair. You, being the only person I know here I just thought you will have the time to..." He can't finish what he's saying.

I just felt different. I felt something that I cannot describe.

"To meet?" I asked him.

"Yes. That's more like it." he told me. He sounded friendly, not flirty at all which is good.

"I'm free at 1 pm" I told him.

"Good, where should we meet?" he asked.

"I'll see you at the Book Fair. I know it's close at my office. I'll call you when I get there" I told him.

"Great. I'll see you then" William replied.

"Alright, bye." I told him then I hang up.

Should I be hanging out with him? Should I be hanging out with him?

I keep asking myself.

Well, there's no harm with meeting again, right?

When it's 1 pm, I arranged all my desk things and left the office.

"Where are you going?" Jeremiah asked me.

"I'm going out. I'm free this time." I told him.

"Alone?" Jeremiah asked.

"Yes." I told him.

"You need security if you're going out." Jeremiah replied.

"No, I'm fine." I told him.

"It's dangerous. At least change with some casual wear if you're going alone. That's what Charles and I used to do." Jeremiah said.

I looked at myself from head to toe.

"You are right. I look attention seeking." I told him.

"Go on, and change with something unnoticeable as they say and wear a hat." He said.

---------------

When I got out of Elmyra, I went to the nearest clothing store and bought a simple floral dress that doesn't look overwhelming in anyway possible and a hat.

I changed my shoes to flats. Just the old me.

I walked to wear the book fair will be. I grabbed my phone and called William to tell him I'm here.

"Hey" he said when I called.

"I'm here." I told him.

"I can see you" I heard him then I turned around and saw him walking towards me.

It felt like I am with Charles even for a short while.
