Madison

We were happy, it's all that matters. It's been awhile since I felt so much joy like this. Even if we didn't know much about the truth, I'm still glad we have those days together.

My phone rings.

It's Dr. Hackenson, Alfred's doctor.

I answered his call. "Hello" I spoke.

"Good morning, Mrs. Newman. I called because of Mr. Nolan." He said.

"What is it?" I asked him.

"His condition got worse. He can no longer move 85% of his body. He can only speak, and move just 2 of his fingers." The doctor replied.

"Oh no"

"Mr. Nolan also made a request. He wants to speak to Mr. Newman in person." He said.

"I'll let him now. Thank you." I told him.

I hang up.

I waited for Charles to come home from work to tell the news.

"I have something to tell you " i said.

"What is it?" Charles replied.

"Alfred's not alright." I told him.

"We'll take him to other hospitals if he wants to" Charles replied.

"He wants to speak with you in person." I told him.

"Then we go tomorrow." He told me.

"I can't go tomorrow." I told him.

"Why?" He asked.

"I need to be with Alana tomorrow for her Ballet Recital. Remember when Mom told us that Alana cried since she was the only one without her mom?"  I told him.

"Oh yeah, she cried the whole time " Charles said.

"I'll go alone." He added.

"Take Jeremiah with you, have a cousin trip." I told him.

"Well, that's not a bad idea." He said.

Charles

Jeremiah hasn't stopped talking about the trip. Maybe I never did this with him often because of his energy.

He won't rest, I just wanted to take a nap but he won't stop chatting.

"Do you think he's dying?" Jeremiah asked about Alfred.

"I don't know. I can't tell now." I told him.

"If he dies, Madison will have everything he built." Jeremiah replied.

"Then what?" I told him

"Aren't you going to be jealous? Your wife's going to be rich" Jeremiah said.

"She's already rich. We are rich. We never had a prenup so I own it too" I told him.

"Wow" Jeremiah said.

"But it's going to Artie once he's old enough." I told him.

"Well that's good news, you won't make a choice anymore." Jeremiah said.

"Your adopted son will have a company of his own. And your biological son will have yours one day." He added.

"That's true." I told him.

"It would have been a difficult choice, but I'm glad it's already solved." Jeremiah replied.

When we arrived, Jeremiah refused to come with me to the hospital, instead he went to the Mall.
