The third and final interesting assassination occurred in the roaring oceans of the Sea Kingdom.
It was a blisteringly hot day on the beach, and it didn't help that Flint was crouching right beside RedRunner behind the rock.
Since Flint had come back alive from his first solo mission, Arson sent them both on a mission without him. They had been sent to assassinate a SeaWing Lieutenant who was strongly pushing for war against the SkyWings. This Lieutenant, Lieutenant Scallop, happen to be the overseer of a small SeaWing town right on the shore.
Above water? This'll be a piece of cake! RedRunner thought. Just then, a large, turquoise SeaWing raced past. The brothers exchanged a glance. The SeaWing, anxiously flitting his wings, entered a large hut.
"That's our target," Flint whispered, gesturing to the hut. RedRunner peered crosseyed at the building. He could vaguely see the turquoise color of Lieutenant Scallop's wings, and he heard strange squeaking noises coming from the hut as well.
How strange.. RedRunner observed.
They had decided to wait until nightfall as to not disturb the other SeaWings. When night came, the twins crept out of their hiding place toward Lieutenant Scallop's hut.
There were only a few festival lights still on and most of the SeaWings were inside, but Flint and RedRunner were still cautious enough to stay out of any hut's window view. The duo snuck through the shadows to the hut, where squeaking noises could still be heard. Flint and RedRunner exchanged a confused glance as they peeked inside.
Within the hut were five cages, each containing a scavenger. Beside the cages was an empty bed.
...What? They looked up, and there he was. Lieutenant Scallop. Hanging from the ceiling. Staring at them with a crazy expression. RedRunner backed up a bit from fear.
"Well, well, well, look what the scavengers dragged in," the SeaWing commented, smiling insanely. He spread his wings, dropping from the ceiling.
RedRunner widened his eyes and Flint glared at the Lieutenant. His expression read "We need to kill this insane dragon. NOW."
The SeaWing sauntered toward the window, lashing his tail. Flint recoiled before lunging at him. RedRunner hesitated a second before leaping on the SeaWing as well. Lieutenant Scallop had started screaming the second Flint's Firescales touched his scales, so RedRunner had to wrap his talons around the SeaWing's snout so he couldn't warn anyone.
In the few moments of silence he had, Flint snapped the insane dragon's neck before darting out the door. RedRunner followed close behind, only glancing back once at the somber looking scavengers. After that, the twins made a straight B-line for their home.
"Sear, aren't you proud of your sons? They've been on exactly 3,285 successful missions now!" Arson asked after they told him the story of the stange encounter with the insane SeaWing. Their mother, who was staring longingly at a picture, didn't respond. Arson frowned.
"You're not still thinking about that putrid SkyWing boy, are you?" he growled. Sear looked up from the picture to glare at Arson. RedRunner shifted uncomfortably, feeling out of place.
"He didn't love you! Would he have given you two sons to be proud of? No!"
"You leave Zephyr out of this.." Sear snarled in a warning tone, interrupting Arson.
"I'm just saying, our families arranged this for us, so there is no going back or betraying them," Arson hissed.
Flint and RedRunner exchanged a glance.
Sear looked sorrowfully down at her talons.
"I wish I had run away with Seer and Zephyr after all.." she sighed under her breath.
Arson snorted angrily before taking off in the sky toward an indeterminable destination.
