                                    (9 Months Later)

Flint yawned, opening his eyes sleepily, only to almost leap out of his scales to see his over energetic twin brother, RedRunner, literally an inch from his snout.

"GAH!" Flint yelled, falling backward and barely caught himself in midair before falling flat on the hard floor. RedRunner burst out laughing. He glared at RedRunner, trying to gather himself. As he was doing so, RedRunner explained to him that their father had called both of them outside to the deck immediately.

     "Without breakfast?" Flint asked longingly.

"I guess not!" RedRunner shrugged, and soared down to the deck. Flint sighed, following right behind RedRunner, and landing down beside him.

"You requested us, Father?" Flint asked, standing straight up. RedRunner tried to do the same, but he couldn't help but quiver from excitement.

"Yes," Arson said in his deep, threatening voice. His blood-red and ruby scales glimmered menacingly in the morning sunlight.

"Today you two's first training day," he informed them. Flint and RedRunner exchanged a puzzled glance.

"Both of you will be trained as assassins like I was, and then you will be able to continue our family business." Arson rasped, pacing back and forth before them.

The brothers tilted their heads, nodding in fascination.

"You boys ready for the hardest day of your lives?" their father asked mischievously. They opened their mouths to reply, but were cut off when Arson ushered them into the air with his tail. He winced as he briefly touched Flint's fiery scales.

     "Thought so!"

After that, they were swept away into harsh training all day, avoiding death by snakebite, bleeding out, drowning, heat, and much more, and were covered in many injuries ranging from large gashes to small cuts, and were completely exhausted when they came back home.

"G'night," was all their mother uttered when they trudged up to their room to go to bed.

Flint sighed internally as they made the rest of the way up the stairs and flopped on his bed. He could never understand why their parents never really cared about them, or each other, nonetheless..

"Good night!" RedRunner yawned, laying down to go to sleep.

"Good night.." Flint murmured, gazing up at the stars. Well, tomorrow is another day.. and I have a whole life-full of days left as well, Flint thought, slowly drifting to sleep.
