Chapter 14: DAMMIT TOPAZ, SHUT UP!

     "Hey.." Feather murmured, shyly padding up to RedRunner. They were in Hunting Class, and Preyhunter was teaching them how to catch fish, but no one was really paying attention since they all hated water.

     "Oh, hi Feather!" RedRunner smiled, welcoming her to sit next to him. She sat down gratefully. RedRunner wished Flint would sit by him, but he was talking to a SkyWing named Bloodrose about how boring school could be.

      Flint, being a very upbeat and extrovert kind of dragon, quickly made friends with a lot of SkyWings and SandWings.

     He liked to talk to the other SkyWing twins in the school, Plume, fireless, and Cinder, Firescales. He would to talk to Ridge and his SandWing friend Prickly-Pear, who everyone shipped. He even liked the SandWings Greyscale and Greyscale's secret admirer, Heatwave.

      He hoped Flint hadn't revealed their heritage, or that they had assassinated over 50 important dragons to any of his friends, though. RedRunner had kept it a secret for now, and he was going to keep it that way.

     "RedRunner..!" Feather whisper-yelled, snapping him out of his thoughts.

     "Oh sorry, I was lost in thought," he admitted. Feather sighed. "I-I want to tell you something.." she murmured. He cocked his head to the side. "I'm all ears," he offered. She looked at the ground and shuffled her talons. "I-"

                         DONG          DONG          DONG

     "Time for lunch, dragonets!" Preyhunter called. RedRunner was ushered to the Cafeteria by the crowd of dragonets.

      Talk about terrible timing.. his mind grumbled, making his way to the little group's table.

     "What did you want to tell me?" RedRunner asked Feather, sitting down with a roasted newt, a rare treat that he had saved all day just for lunch.

     "O-oh.. I'll tell you after I get my lunch.." she sighed.

      When all the rest of the group sat down at their table, RedRunner was sitting next to Feather and Flint (Empyrean was on Flint's other side, so that still ticked RedRunner off).

     "So, what was it you wanted to tell me?" Feather looked down shyly. Wait, was he seeing things? RedRunner might've imagined seeing her blush slightly, right? Must be his own anxious brain trying to figure out why she was acting like this.. or was it him himself. Did he like her, and he was imagining her blushing to reassure himself that she liked him? But what if she really did blush? He shook himself out of his thoughts.

     "...Feather?" he asked cautiously. She looked him in the eye. Was it just him imagining that her blue eyes were deeper and more beautiful than they had ever been..? RedRunner could feel his heart racing in anticipation, and maybe something else..

     "RedRunner, I- I love you.." Feather admitted in a whisper. Wow... She does like me.. he thought. He blinked, quietly taking in the news. Topaz, however, was not quiet.

     "THRICE MOON-BORN NIGHTWING DRAGONETS! I didn't know she had a thing for him!" she screeched. The entire cafeteria fell silent, everyone staring at their table.

     "Feather likes RedRunner, y'all!" Topaz yelled, flailing her front talons above her head. Everyone stared at the pair of SkyWings. Feather's eyes widened. Both RedRunner and Feather went red with embarrassment and rage.

     "DAMMIT, TOPAZ! It's not your place to be telling everyone who likes who!" RedRunner exclaimed angrily. Feather curled up in a ball in his wings, beginning to cry.

     "I just read the room!" Topaz protested, shrugging defensively.

     "Topaz, I agree with RedRunner here," Kenobi chimed in calmly, "You shouldn't be blurting out personal things to the entire school." Prince Kadal nodded reluctantly (which was the first good thing he actually did).

      Unrelated, the SandWing prince seemed to be letting Princess Anarchy go. On the other talon, he was becoming fond of Topaz..

      Topaz sighed in defeat. "Fine.." she grumbled, "I'll keep my ships to myself.. mostly!" she added cheekily, glancing between Kenobi and Prince Kadal.
