An Hour Later when Matt and the crews return to Firehouse 20:
Matt's POV: As we arrived at the firehouse, I smiled when I walked in to see Gabby standing in the firehouse kitchen making something to eat. "Thought we agreed that you'd stay upstairs?" Gabby then turned to look at me. "Oh, you're back. I thought you were going to be a bit longer. I was just making breakfast for the house." I smiled when she said that before walking over to her. I then went to put my hands on her stomach and bent down to kiss her softly. "It went great." Gabby smiled when I said that before going to hold me close when everybody else came in.

Stella then smiled as she walked over. "Listen, I get there's COVID but can Gabby please stay down here for a while Matt? I haven't seen her in a while and I actually need to talk to my girl for a while. We still haven't talked about something important." I then turned to look at her and was confused. "Such as?" Stella then smiled at Gabby. "Whether you will be my maid of honor?" Gabby then laughed and nodded. "Girl, of course I will! Just make sure that you guys don't get married until after these ones are born. I want to look good for my man in a tight dress."

I laughed when she said that before wrapping my arm around her waist. I then went to kiss her forehead and smiled. "Listen, how about you keep your mask on an go sit down. I will sit next to you but please keep a little distance Gabby. I know this is going to be hard but...I want you to stay safe during the pregnancy." Gabby nodded when I said that before going to grab my jacket. "I promise Chief. Maybe you can finish helping Louie with his snack?" I then looked at him and smiled as he sat on the counter. "What are you wanting for a snack little man?" Louie smiled.

"Mama was getting my some yogurt." I nodded and agreed with him as I went to walk over to the fridge where we put some yogurt for when Louie got hungry. Watching Gabby go sit down with Firehouse 51, I smiled before going to grab the yogurt. That's when I heard Captain Delaney walk in. "Chief, do you mind if I ask how that went?" Turning to look at him, I smiled. "I think that went perfectly Delaney." He then sighed. "I am sorry about being a pain earlier. I promise that you are not going to have problems with me. You are chief and I understand." I nodded when he said that. "You just need to put your ego ago aside okay man?" He agreed and nodded.

"By the way, who's this little man? I didn't see him earlier." I smiled when he asked. "This is my son Louie. He was upstairs in the apartment." Delaney nodded when I said that. "I should've realized that you were interim Chief the minute that you came down from there." I nodded and agreed with him. "Listen, we can talk later. Right now, I am on daddy duty. I am going to help Louie have a bit of yogurt while my wife Gabby socializes with 51. I hope it's okay if we just keep the houses somewhat separate for a while during COVID?" Delaney nodded and agreed.

"Anything to keep your kids safe. Talk next call." I nodded and agreed with him when I said that. I then went to walk over to Gabby and smiled as I sat in the chair next to her. "Here we go, some nice yogurt for Louie." Louie smiled when I said that before going to grab the yogurt I gave him, ready to eat. With him eating by himself...I smiled at Gabby while going to grab her hand. "You going to work OFI with Severide today?" Gabby nodded when I said that. "Yeah, I have my laptop down here and they are going to send me Firehouse 20 cases too. What type of fire was this?"

I then shook my head. "Not a fire, track jumper, potential suicide at Polk CTA Station." Gabby nodded and agreed with me when I said that. Grabbing my hand, she sighed. "First one...wait, second one since you became chief." I nodded and sighed as I went to wrap my arm around Louie. I then went to kiss his head and just held him close. "It's a little raw honestly." Gabby nodded when I said that. "You'll be okay Matt...I promise." I nodded when she said that and smiled. That's when I saw Louie start playing with my zipper. "Hey, when did you turn around?"

Louie then smiled as he played with the zipper on my jacket. Kissing his forehead, I smiled before going to look at Delaney who decided to move in front of me. "I think we need to clear the air more. That okay chief?" I nodded when he said that. "Gabby, you okay if he sits here?" Gabby nodded. "Yeah, it's okay. I am positive that he is safe. He has a family after all. Sorry but Louie ran around the firehouse and I think he ended up in your room." Delaney nodded when Gabby said that. "Yeah, I have kids. So, I understand." I nodded and smiled at him.

"Listen, about earlier...I didn't know you were a chief and I'm sorry. I guess I am just hoping and being a bit cocky when it comes to me being the rightful heir." I agreed with him when he said that. "Hey, I felt the same way when Boden died...well at least I thought it was a possibility but, I never outright said it. I had to say this but, the commissioner called me after the incident he oversaw. He told me that he is going to ask me for a recommendation over who to appoint. He says he wants me to watch you over the time we are here until we move back Delaney."

Delaney was shocked when I said that. "They are considering me?" I nodded and agreed with him. "But only if you smarten up. They said either they are going to appoint you or...they are going to merge our houses and make us a big house. Our houses are getting old and there's talk of making a big regional house somewhere. That means this situation would be permanent. I am not saying that's going to happen but if it does...they would have to appoint me Chief since they are closing both of our firehouses and there is nobody here who is a chief right now."

Delaney agreed with me when I said that. "Of course Chief. I promise to behave. But, do you really think they would do that? Merge our two houses permanently and make a giant house?" That's when I heard Chief Walker come into the Firehouse. "Unfortunately, that is a possibility." Getting up, I looked at him. "Chief Walker." He then looked at me and sighed. "Can I speak to you for a moment?" I agreed and nodded as we walked away to go speak to him in my office.
