Chapter 311

Matt's POV: When Gabby said that she wanted to take this time to maybe start planning our wedding...I was confused. I mean, we are already married...why do we need to get married again? I am so lost. Does she not believe my vows? I mean, we have made it through so much together...why wouldn't we be okay? "Okay, just before we even start this conversation...we're good right? You are not doubting that I am committed to us and our marriage are you Gabby?" Gabby then went to cuddle up to me more and put her hand on my chest. "No, of course not."

Wrapping my arm around her back, I was still confused. "Okay, then why exactly are we talking about a second wedding for us? Is it because we just got Louie back and you want..." Gabby then shook her head. "Okay, maybe we word wedding was wrong...maybe vow renewal was better. Matt, you have to admit that a courthouse ceremony in turnout gear is not the most romantic wedding." I laughed when she said that and nodded while going to kiss her forehead. "Babe, we never had a real wedding. I want to have it because you are my one and only...my forever."

I thought about it and sighed. "Gabby, I love the idea...I really do. But, I am not in the mood to plan it right now. No, not because I don't want one but because of what's going on in our life and in the world right now. Gabby, people are dying of COVID. I just read on the news that since the start of the pandemic....1,000 people have died in the state of New York alone since the start of the pandemic. Gabby, do you really think that is the time to plan or even have a wedding?" Gabby then went to grab my hand when I said that and shook her head. "No."

I sighed when she did that before going to run my fingers through her hair. Kissing her forehead, I sighed before putting my hand on her back. "Listen Gabby, there is nothing I want more than to give you the wedding of your dreams with all the people we love and care for here. But right now, I am not in the place where I am ready to do that. Gabby, just think about why we are here. I brought in more staff on shift to help more people in the pandemic. Instead, I created a super spreader event that has led us to have to quarantine in a hotel away from our son."

Gabby nodded when I said that. "By the way, I want to give him a call. Think we can shelve this conversation and give him a call? I want to talk to him and see if he's confused. If he is Matt then...I want to try and see if we can get him here. I don't want him to feel abandoned again. You know that was the case when we first got him. If he feels that way, I am going to be so heartbroken and I am not going to be able to sleep later." I sighed when she said that. "Gabby, we just learned that he tested negative for COVID. Can we at least wait until we have our results? I don't want to expose him to the virus if we don't have to."

I then went to kiss her forehead before tearing up a bit. "I don't want to loose another boy this year." Running my fingers through her hair, I went to whisper to Gabby. "I hate to say this but...I secretly was all for having Louie because I was scared that something would happen babe. I was scared that something would happen to the pregnancy like last time around and that we would have the same result." Gabby looked up at me when I said that and nodded. "I guess that is a real fear to have." I nodded and agreed as I went to rub her back. "Gabby, just know that I don't feel that way anymore...I know that we are going to have these babies."

Gabby smiled when I said that. "I know and that is exciting." Moving to cuddle up to me more, Gabby put her hand on my chest while laying her head down on my shoulder. Wrapping her arm around my back, I went to kiss her forehead and just smiled at her. "I love you Gabby and I am so happy that we are in this together. And honestly, there is nowhere I would rather be right now than with you in my arms in bed." Gabby then laughed when I said that. "You sure that you wouldn't rather be in our bed at home?" I then thought about it and nodded. "Yeah, I would."

Gabby smiled when I said that and agreed with me. "Listen, what do you say we just relax for a while okay? Maybe we can turn on the TV and watch something non-news related." I then went to check the time and sighed. "Not right now. It's the COVID press conference that I do not like to watch. However, that also means that I just got my daily report." Gabby was confused when I said that. "What are you talking about?" Going to reach over to my side table, I went to grab my iPad and went to open my e-mails. "My daily report on new COVID cases."

Looking at me, Gabby was confused when I said that. "In the CFD or in Chicago?" I smiled when she said that. "Both. They let us know." Gabby sighed when I said that. "Great, the entire firehouse is going to be in there." I nodded when she said that before going to open my e-mail. That's when I got a call on the iPad and I smiled when I saw who it was. "I think someone wants to talk to us first." Gabby nodded and agreed with me as we went to answer Louie's call. "Hey buddy, how are you doing with Grandma?"

Louie then looked at us both. "Mommy, daddy...when are you coming home? I miss you and I'm scared." Looking at Gabby when he said that, I could tell that her heart was breaking at the sound of his voice saying that. Kissing the top of her head, I looked at her and sighed. "Buddy, we miss you too but...we have to stay here because it's not safe to be with you. We might be sick with this thing that's going around. Remember why we have to wear masks buddy?" He nodded when I said that. "Yes, daddy." I nodded. "We don't want you to have it buddy, it's bad"

Louie then got scared. "Do you and mommy have it?" Gabby shook her head. "We don't know yet buddy but, I promise that we will tell you right when we do know. But right now, you don't need to worry about that. All you need to worry about right now is having fun with grandma. What did you guys do today?" Louie then bit his lip and smiled a bit. "We made chocolate chip cookies and I ate 5 of them." We then both looked at him when he said that. "Oh boy, you are going to be trouble for grandma aren't you bud?" I then went to kiss Gabby's head.

She then looked up at me and whispered to me. "I changed my mind, I am glad we aren't there for this sugar rush." I laughed and agreed with her before going to kiss her softly. That's when I saw my mom. "Louie, did you tell your parents how many cookies you ate like I said not to? You are going to get me in trouble!" I laughed when my mom said that. "And your punishment is having to deal with a toddler who has too much sugar." She agreed and nodded when I said that. "So, have you played any games or how much TV has he watched Nancy?"

My mom then looked at Gabby and smiled. "Let's just say that he has been loving his Disney. They have a marathon of movies going since the start of COVID." I nodded and agreed with her when she said that. "That's a good way to keep him occupied. How have you been keeping yourself occupied?" My mom then laughed. "I have been cleaning up this house. Seriously Matthew, you are not a child anymore. Oh and I put some of the clothes I bought for the babies away." I nodded and smiled. "Can't wait to see them. By the way mom, where are you sleeping?"

My mom then looked at me. "I am sleeping in my basement bedroom. I hope that's okay. I know Louie is upstairs but..." I then agreed. "Mom, you can sleep down there if you want but...you can also sleep in our room. Just change the sheets and you should be good." She nodded and agreed with me when I said that. "I'll think about that okay? But listen, you guys just take a break and enjoy this alone time you have. You aren't going to have much of it when we have 3 kids." 

We both agreed when she said that. "Thanks mom. Listen, you enjoy this time with Louie and we'll enjoy this alone time together. Talk later when he goes to bed okay?" We all nodded and agreed before ending the call. Looking at Gabby after we spoke to Louie, I smiled as I went to kiss her forehead. "See, he's all good with my mom." Gabby nodded and agreed with me when I said that. "Can you put your phone down and just kiss me for a while? I am a bit hormonal and just want to be held." I nodded when she said that and smiled, doing just like she asked me to.
