Chapter 300

Matt's POV: After making my way home with Gabby, I came out of the washroom while putting my watch on after getting changed. Seeing her standing at the window in our room, I went to speak to her. "Antonio's a fighter. He is going to get through this with flying colours." Gabby sighed as she turned to look at me. "I know he's just my brother and not my husband but..." I then shook my head while walking over to her. "Hey, don't even say that okay?" Gabby nodded as I walked over to her and just wrapped her arms around me as I held her close.

Putting my hand on her butt, I went to look down into her eyes and kissed her softly. "Thanks for defending me and Louie to that reporter from ABC." I then looked at her before going to grab her neck. "Hey, you have nothing to thank me for." I then went to grab her hand. "Come here, let's sit down on the bed. I asked your mom to stay for a while so we could have a bit of time together." Gabby nodded and agreed with me as she went to get on our bed. Looking at her as I got on with her, I smiled before going to grab her hand and rubbing it. "Listen, about that ABC reporter...."

Gabby then looked at me. "You had a great response." I sighed when she said that. "A great response from the standpoint of a chief or as your husband?" Gabby then shook her head. "Honestly Matt, you should've answered it the same way. Remember, you promised me that you would always put me and our family first. And you did just that today babe." I then sighed. "What if the board reviews my promotion because of th..." Gabby just stopped me and went to kiss me softly. "Then they don't deserve you babe. Matt, you defended our friends while doing that."

I nodded and agreed with her. "Matt, first and foremost...you are my husband and they are our friends. You need to do what's right for you. If you think that blasting that reporter for being a racist SOAB is the right thing to do...then do it. The CFD knew what they were getting when they decided to make you Battalion Chief. They know they can't control you at times. Firehouse 51 has always been that way. You really think that's going to change just because they have a new chief?" I then thought about that and nodded while going to bring her close to me.

"You know that you are just as much as a part of this as me right? I don't think I could do this without you." Gabby nodded and smiled when I said that. She then went to wrap her arms around me and got closer to me while we held each other in bed. Kissing the top of her head, I smiled at her and was about to kiss her again when I heard my phone ring in my pocket. Since Gabby had her hand closer to it, she went to grab it for me and then looked to see it was Jay and Erin. "It's the Halsteads." I smiled when she said that. "I didn't expect them to go next."

Going to answer my phone on speakerphone, I smiled. "Well, if it isn't the newlyweds." Jay laughed when I said that. "By the way, we just watched your press conference on TV. Boy you told that reporter from ABC Chicago." I laughed and agreed with him. "Hey, you go for my family...I go after you!" Jay then laughed. "Literally, you had to bring up Gabby eh?" I then looked at Gabby when he said that. "You are okay that I did that right? Bringing up you and Louie in the press conference?" Gabby nodded and smiled as she grabbed my hand.

"Hey, you had to get your point across the best way possible. And I thought that was the best way possible. Matt, you said the truth and don't even think twice that I was okay with that." I nodded and smiled when she said that. Setting my phone down on the bed next to her, I brought her close to me and put my hand on her hip while kissing her softly. Moving her arm around me, Gabby smiled when I did that. She then whispered to me. "Louie is right behind you." I then turned to look at him and smiled. "Hey bud, you take a good nap this morning?"

That's when I heard my mom come upstairs. "Sorry guys." I then went to get up and smiled at my mom before walking over to her and going to hug her. "Thanks for coming here so fast. I know it was really fast." She nodded and agreed with me. "It's okay, I love spending some time with my new grandson." I nodded and agreed with her before turning to look at Gabby. "Gabby, would you mind if I invite her to stay here for a bit? I mean with Christie in the hospital..." Gabby nodded when I said that. "You heard about that right Nancy?" 

My mom nodded when Gabby said that before walking in a bit. "Do you mind if I sit in here?" I then shook my head. "Of course not. Here, we can talk as a family. Or we can go downstairs. I know we said we need time but, we haven't spent much time with you. I promise, she's been tested babe." Gabby  nodded and smiled when I said that. "Sure." I smiled when Gabby said that. "Listen mom, we'll be right down. But, I need to ask Gabby something quick." She nodded and agreed with me when I said that. "See you soon." My mom then got up and smiled.

"Go with grandma Louie." Louie nodded and agreed as he went to run downstairs with my mom. Once he was gone, I turned to look at Gabby and took a breath. "What would you think if I asked my mom to move in with us?" Gabby then looked at me, seemingly shocked. "What?"
