24/05/3988 AD – 17:56 – Sol System – Earth – Wyperian Outpost Omega – Castle Entrance
"Push forward! Push forward!" Captain Leran continually repeated as a convoy of military tanks crawled along to an old crumbling castle. The deafening sound of both kinetic and laser gunfire made it difficult for Leran to convey orders, but still, his soldiers charged on. They fired storms of bullets at waves of silver human-like robots, striking and knocking them down one by one. Humanity was being invaded on their home world... and they were losing. It was a new cybernetic alien threat that called themselves 'Wyperians': robots with devastating weaponry and capabilities.
"Over there!" Leran shouted as he raised his assault rifle and emptied half a magazine of bullets into a pair of Wyperians that were preparing to shoot with kinetic rifles of their own. As Leran's bullets pierced their metal skin, he watched as sparks flew into the air like blood. As they died, the thin visor that brushed over their spherical heads dimmed until they were off.
"CAPTAIN!" one of his soldiers cried out from behind, noticing that a Wyperian had snuck up behind them. They were slightly bigger than the average Human. Save for their glass visors, these things were fully cloaked in some unknown, metal-like material; even where traditional suits of armour would have fabric gaps in the plating to prevent mobility restrictions, Wyperians just had a lighter variant of this metal armour. They all appeared to look extremely similar, almost like it was a uniform. Their armoured bodies were bland and lifeless apart from a belt, wrapped around their waist, which hung two long, thin, pentagonal plates either side of their legs.
The panel opened up and threw some kind of black hilt with a trigger attached to it into the Wyperian's hand. It pulled the trigger and the top opened up, igniting a pink energy blade.
"What is tha-" the soldier was quickly silenced as the Wyperian slashed through his chest; blood and clothing splatted along the blade, dissolving as it touched the pink laser.
A female soldier ran a short distance before turning back and shooting at the Wyperian with her rifle. An energy sphere of the same colour as the blade encased the enemy, and the Human's feeble bullets disintegrated on impact.
"This is ridiculous!" Leran waved to the tank. The huge gun barrel on a nearby war machine swivelled around and aimed at the alien. Leran dived to the ground as an explosive shell fired, shattering the shield, and killing the creature inside of it.
Many Humans wondered if these mysterious beings were simply a group of terrorists with tremendous power, or some government with too much money going after even more money. From a colony on Mars? Venus? Maybe even further? No; key facts disproved these theories. The first theory is unlikely because no demands have been made since the start of the attacks four months back; surely terrorists would display some kind of motive or make some kind of declaration? Secondly, their equipment was far too advanced; they couldn't be Human even if it was funded by some kind of secret government group. Those Wyperian energy shields could negate all sorts of weaponry and, whilst they could be shattered if enough damage is applied to them, that level of strength for a mere energy barrier is FAR beyond Human technology. There has also never been a single documented instance of them running out of their own ammunition. Their laser-based weapons having unlimited ammo made sense; even Humans have that kind of technology, but they were somehow able to fire kinetic weapons endlessly. So this Wyperian threat suddenly appeared out of thin air one day and began slaughtering thousands of Humans for seemingly no reason. Humans were outmatched, all they could do was put up a little resistance.
One person that was resisting was Leran, a Captain of the Human forces. He was known as a heroic leader that had fought in numerous battles; his pristine uniform was decorated with medals that displayed his valour and loyalty to Earth. His group of soldiers were famously unstoppable but none of these victories had been against Wyperians. Leran's team had held them off on occasion, but now it was time they went on the attack. The elite force now marched towards a large fortress. It was once a historical site valued by Humanity but was now occupied by the alien threat. Alongside Leran's soldiers were three heavy assault tanks, camouflaged against the rocky terrain with a dark-brown paintjob. A tank fired a large shell and blew the castle gate wide open.
